During Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, hosts Adil Ray and Kate Garraway spoke with the Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Jonathan Ashworth about the new COVID-19 app and how it will affect people in the UK. Mr Ashworth claimed it could put a huge burden on businesses and questioned whether the Government will have enough resources. Ray hit back at the MP and told him after the last year’s Test and Trace, the app could be a sensible move.

“I don’t know what you’d do if you haven’t got one but they’ll ask you to produce that before you are allowed entry, they will be allowed to do that,” Ashworth explained.

“I think we’re putting a huge burden on businesses there. Are they going to have the resources to do it?”

Ray interrupted: “Well I’ve done that. When the lockdown restrictions eased the first time around we had an NHS app and you had to show you’d logged in for test and trace.

“I did that all the time so I don’t know what the problem is. You go through an airport and you show your visa.”

Ray continued: “You go to Africa and you show you’ve had your Yellow Fever jab. It’s the kind of thing we do.

“For another year or eighteen months to see us through a precarious situation while the borders are still open, it could be quite a sensible move.”

“Well, but how much is this app going to cost us? They’ve not even told us,” Ashworth hit back.

“There will loads of people who don’t want to do that and won’t be able to do that.”
