Who is Strictly Come Dancing 2021 contestant Tom Fletcher? – The Sun

IT'S been 16 years since McFly hit the charts with 5 Colours In Her Hair, but Tom Fletcher has remained a regular on our screens.

His wife Giovanna was crowned the winner of this year's I'm A Celebrity. Now, it's been confirmed that he's a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing 2021. But, who is Tom and when was he in Busted?

Who is Tom Fletcher?

Tom Fletcher was born on July 17, 1985, and grew up in Harrow, North West London.

The 35-year-old attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, in Marble Arch.

Tom's younger sister, singer Carrie Hope Fletcher, starred as Eponine in Les Miserables – and is now producing vlogs for YouTube.

Tom's first big break came when he was 10 – and starred in Oliver! at the London Palladium.

In the past, the dad-of-three has struggled with eating disorders – and has been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder.

Tom is a popular vlogger – his YouTube channel has over 600,000 subscribers.

Among his videos, pregnancy announcements and clips with his kids have drawn most interest to the channel.

Like his best-selling wife Giovanna, Tom is also a popular children's author.

He released The Christmasaurus in late 2016, and There's a Monster In Your Book in 2017.

In August 2021, he was confirmed as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.

Was Tom Fletcher in Busted?

At school, Tom was good mates with Busted bassist Matt Willis – the husband of Big Brother host Emma Willis.

He auditioned for Busted alongside Matt, but lost his place to Charlie Simpson – when the record label decided the boy band should be a three-piece.

However, Tom did score a job with the band's song writing team.

He co-wrote number 1 hits including Crashed the Wedding, Who's David and Thunderbirds.

When did Tom Fletcher join McFly?

Tom met vocalist Danny Jones when auditioning for short-lived boy band V in 2003. Neither musician ended up joining V.

They later met bassist Dougie Poynter and drummer Harry Judd after advertising for band mates.

Tom chose to call the group Marty McFly, after his favourite film Back to the Future.

The group rose to fame after Busted invited them to be the opening act on their tour in March 2004.

Later the same year, McFly got a Guinness World Record, beating the Beatles to "the youngest band to have a debut album go straight to number one".

Tom has written the majority of the group's songs, and has also penned hit singles for One Direction, The Vamps and the London 2012 Olympics.

In 2013, it was announced that McFly and Busted (minus Charlie) would join forces and tour as McBusted.

The group lasted two years before parting ways, while McFly returned to the stage in September 2016.

When did he marry Giovanna Fletcher?

Tom met his wife Giovanna 'Gi' Falcone at school when he was just 13 years old.

He proposed to Gi, who is the sister of Towie star Mario Falcone, in April 2011 – and the pair tied the knot in May 2012.

The couple welcomed their first child, son Buzz Michelangelo Fletcher, 4, into the world on March 13, 2014.

On February 16, 2016, their second son Buddy Bob Fletcher, 2, was born – and Tom's playful daddy antics have won him an army of female admirers.

But being a busy dad of two isn't all fun and games, Buddy banged his head at Disneyland and paramedics had to be called in May 2017.

Now, the couple have revealed, in a sweet Instagram video, that they are expecting a third child in September 2018.

Giovanni is an author, presenter and vlogger.

She has written numerous novels including Billy and Me and Always with Love, plus Happy Mum, Happy Baby: My Adventures in Motherhood.

On August 25, 2018, Tom's third child, Max was born.
