Strictly Come Dancing is back on BBC One this weekend and the stars are out to impress during Movie Week. Actor Will Mellor and his dance partner Nancy Xu will be performing the American Smooth to Cry To Me from Dirty Dancing. A body language expert has suggested their time may be up soon unless they start showing a more passionate connection.

Soap actor Will Mellor has wowed the judging panel so far with his impressive dance moves on Strictly.

He is nearing the top of the leaderboard after two weeks on the dancefloor, which is a great start for the 46-year-old.

The Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps star is hoping to pull at viewers’ heartstrings with his American Smooth this week.

Yet there are fears the Glitterball Trophy may be out of reach for the actor, according to a body language expert.

Reboot Link Building Agency partnered up with celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman to uncover which pairs are lacking chemistry.

They also used Google Trends to analyse each couple’s popularity online, based on the highest proportion of searches so far.

Will and Nancy’s chemistry rating was 35 per cent, one of the lowest of the group.

Inbaal said: “The hard work and passion that this couple puts into their performance is evident in their skill and energy, but the passion is reserved for the dancing, not for each other.

“He strokes her with straight, firm digits, not soft and loving.

“She looks directly at him during the dancing with focused eyes, not smiling and feeling.

“Their personalities are similar, they are both keen to win. But there are no sparks flying – no chemistry.”

Will is the favourite with the bookies to win the Glitterball Trophy this year, so he is under a lot of pressure.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Will Mellor continues to impress judges, viewers and punters alike and we’re expecting another solid performance from the series frontrunner this weekend.”

His odds of winning the 2022 series are at 3/1, with presenter Helen Skelton just behind at 7/2.

Despite the observations from experts, Will and Nancy have shown their appreciation for one another.

Nancy shared a photo of the pair smiling together in a selfie on her Instagram page, saying: “Let’s do this, partner.”

After their debut performance, she said: “Still buzzing from last night. Thank you so much for all your kind messages and support.

“So so so much proud of you @willmellor76 and respect.”

In his latest video, Will admitted he had “never heard” of an American Smooth before, and was worried as he had to be “more graceful”.

He said: “It’s been a good week…I have got to be a bit more graceful and it’s one word that has never been associated with me.

“My kids call me Wreckit Ralph, so what does that tell you?” He went on to thank his fans for all of their support so far.

If he is to remain in the competition, he will need to prove to the judges he has a strong connection to his partner on the dancefloor.

His determination to win may not be enough to get him through to the final.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday at 6.30pm.
