No good deed goes unpunished… Good Samaritan’s attempt to rescue ginger cat off California freeway results in PILE-UP – but adorable animal was rescued and taken to shelter
- A kitten was seen dodging between lanes of traffic on the Coronado Bridge
- One person parked on freeway and got out to rescue the animal, causing a three-car pileup
- The animal was taken to PAWS of Coronado, but it is unclear if it is going up for adoption
A small orange kitten was spotted darting through traffic on the Coronado Bridge, prompting someone to get out of their car and come to the rescue – only to cause a multiple-vehicle collision.
On the morning of September 26, a motorist stopped on the bridge in Coronado, California in an attempt to rescue the ginger kitten, who was darting between cars.
However, two other motorists didn’t see the stopped vehicle and ran into it.
A photo posted by the Coronado Police Department showed a black Toyota sedan with a dented rear bumper and a red car with a mangled hood. The drivers were reported to have suffered minor injuries.
Coronado firefighters and CPD’s Corporal Andrew Hutchens discovered the kitten hiding in the movable ‘Zipper’ lane divider.
The uninjured animal was taken to PAWS of Coronado to be cared for.

The Pacific Animal Welfare Society, or PAWS, was founded by Dorothy Shirey in 2003.
The passionate advocate created the Coronado-based animal rescue and established a lasting partnership between PAWS and city government.
The shelter takes in hundreds of animals each year.
‘Today we continue to honor Louise’s legacy by providing high-quality medical care, treating the animals in our care with love and compassion, and seeking to find each animal a perfect forever home through our adoption services,’ the website reads.
Comments beneath the CPD’s Facebook post proposed that the daring kitten be named Zipper.
It is unclear where the animal came from in the first place, but one furious commenter had ideas, demanding, ‘Who would dump a cat on the bridge?’
Two adult cats are currently available for adoption at the shelter. A message promises that ‘kittens season is in full swing’ and several will be up for adoption soon.
