A 48-year-old Australian man has died after collapsing on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea on Sunday.
Kokoda Track Authority chief executive Julius Wargirai said his agency was contacted by the tour group organisers on Sunday who reported a man had collapsed on the walk before being airlifted to Port Moresby.
“The group then continued the track,” he told this masthead.

Wargirai said the agency has since confirmed the man’s death and was working to receive more information about how he died. Local police are now investigating.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed the death and is providing consular assistance to the man’s family.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family,” the spokesman said in a statement.
“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment.”
The Kokoda Trail is a thin track that runs 96 kilometres through the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea.
It was the location of a World War II battle between Japanese and Australian forces and becomes increasingly popular each year ahead of Anzac Day.
