BRITAIN will “exact a price” from enemies who attack us — including Russia and China.
Top brass issued the blunt warning as they revealed RAF planes in Cyprus are being jammed by Russian technology.
The daily attacks interfere with aircraft navigation systems — but our Top Guns are still flying.
Sources slammed the Cyprus attacks as “reckless use of military capability”.
A squadron of eight Typhoons are based at RAF Akrotiri for missions against Isis in Syria and Iraq.
The aircraft being attacked include A400M transport planes on routine resupply flights.
“There are only about two countries that would jam us in that part of the world. It’s only Russia or Syria,” the source added.
“The people doing the jamming are at a state level.”
Russia has a naval base at Tartus in Syria, which is 100 miles east of Cyprus.
Russia’s subs patrol the eastern Med and Moscow has installed cutting edge missile defence systems to protect its butcher ally in Damascus, President Bashar Al Assad.
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “The line between conflict and peace has become increasingly blurred.”
He is set to unveil new weapons as he cuts the Army by 10,000 troops and axes tanks to fund kit to fight future wars.
He added: “We’re modernising the armed forces to ensure we’re ready to fight the wars of today and tomorrow”.
A new Special Forces cyber unit will fight alongside the SAS and SBS as Britain becomes more aggressive in defending its interests.
The MoD's top spy chief, Lt Gen Jim Hockenhull, said future battles "will not be defined by lines on a map or geography".
He said hostile states, terrorists and proxies will attack us above and below the threshold of war.
Defence officials said Russia was constantly probing the UK, by sending ships, subs and aircraft towards our territory.
“We need to do more of that back,” one said.
Britain has a “range of tools” to strike back including world class cyber weapons.
Other options include sanctions, expulsions and embarrassing Moscow, or other foes, by exposing their attacks in the so-called grey zone, below the level of all-out war.
Sources insisted the British forces had “resilience measures in place” to ensure the RAF aircraft keep flying,
But they warned Russia and China had stolen a march in areas like artillery and missile ranges.
“We need to close the gap in lots of areas,” the source said.
“If you can be found you can be killed. We have to invest in hiding better and finding them.”
The army is braced to lose 10,000 troops and four infantry battalions as part of sweeping modernisation plans.
The remaining 72,000 troops will be based abroad more often in a network of bases, in Cypros, Kenya, Oman, Singapore, Gibraltar and Germany, to react more quickly to future crises.
Around 80 Challenger 2 tanks and over 700 Warrior armoured fighting vehicles are also due to be axed.
Sources insisted the cuts were vital to free up cash for new kit.
“If we didn’t retire old kit we would still be fighting with muskets and thoroughbred horses,” he said.
