Dad of three crushed to death under BMW as he tried to steal catalytic converter

A DAD of three was crushed to death under a BMW while trying to steal its catalytic converter, an inquest heard.

Daniel Stephens, 25, suffered chest, face and neck injuries when the jack holding up the motor collapsed.

He told a friend he could sell the converter for £500 and wanted the cash to pay court costs.

BMW owner Russell Seldon found Mr Stephens as he went to drive to work at 6am.

He said: “I saw a pair of legs sticking out from under the car.

“I called out and pulled on the person’s leg . . .  there was no response.”

Mr Stephens, of Blaenavon, Torfaen, was stiff and cold when police arrived.

He died from crush asphyxia and was identified from tattoos and fingerprints, the Pontypridd inquest heard.

Verdict: Accident.
