Trump could beat Biden and topple US democracy, says pollster
Leading US pollster Frank Luntz says Donald Trump can re-take the White House, which could see the collapse of US democracy.
Speaking to us in London ahead of today’s events, Luntz said he was wrong to declare in 2021 that Trump would never again be president.

Heavy security at the courthouse
Outside the courthouse where Donald Trump was due to appear, fans had been gathering since about 8am to show their support.
One local Floridian was draped in an American flag and carrying a raw pig head on a stick, its condensation dripping onto the ground in Miami’s sweltering heat. Another group, known as Blacks For Trump, took shelter under a tree as they chanted the former president’s name: “Trump! Trump! Trump!”

And one man had arrived from California, wearing a top hat and red tailcoat, holding a “Trump Desantis 2024” corflute.
“Trump for president and DeSantis as vice president would be the dream ticket,” said Gregg Donovan, who introduced himself as “The Ambassador of Beverly Hills.”
“The only way it could get any better if we had (actor and former Californian governor) Arnold Schwarzenegger as Secretary of State.”
Security had been ramped up in Miami to prepare for the president’s arrival, but the scene at the federal courthouse was distinctly relaxed compared to the extensive security arrangements put in place for Trump’s first indictment in New York in April over alleged hush money payments.
Police tape and police vans were used to cordon off parts of the Miami court precinct, but for the most part, pro and anti-Trump protesters were able to wander around freely.
One minor incident took place at around 11am, when a suspicious item was found, resulting in police temporarily closing off part of the area as they investigated. The item turned out to be a protest sign made with parts of an old TV set.
Welcome to our rolling coverage
Hello, I’m Latika Bourke and welcome to our rolling coverage of Donald Trump’s Miami court appearance.
Trump is the first ex-president and would-be nominee to face federal court. He is facing 37 felony counts relating to his mishandling of top-secret documents.
Trump has decried the investigation, one of several legal cases he is facing, as a witch-hunt.
We will not see images or footage of Trump’s courtroom appearance as all electronic media is banned, along with mobile phones.
