A FORMER Labour MP has backed controversial plans to let terminal patients die – by announcing he's dying himself.
Lord Frank Field, 79, revealed he's spent time in a hospice and was too sick to come to Parliament yesterday for a debate on assisted dying.
An emotional statement was read to fellow peers by Baroness Meacher on the ex-welfare minister's behalf.
He said: "I changed my mind on assisted dying when an MP friend dying of cancer wanted to die early before the full horror effects set in, but was denied this opportunity."
