A DRIVER thought he had rescued a German Shepherd from the roadside before being left stunned when he realized the canine was, in fact, a coyote.
Eli Boroditsky, of Canada, said he initially believed that the animal was a pet after noticing how docile it was.
He told CBC that his car accidentally hit the animal when it jumped into the middle of the road while he was heading to work.
The animal, which was unconscious, was lying by the side of the road and Eli was worried that it may have been killed.
Eli put the canine into his car and started petting it, believing it was a German shepherd or husky.
He thought it was a domesticated pet because it seemed “docile” and calm.
Eli took the animal to work, but one of his colleagues spotted the beast and knew the creature wasn’t a domesticated pooch.
The revelation stunned Eli as he told CBC in November 2019: “I didn’t think it was a wild animal.”
The animal was later taken to the Wildlife Haven animal sanctuary in Manitoba where it was treated.
Medics revealed that the coyote suffered no broken bones but had a cut on its face and leg.

Officials also warned drivers that they shouldn’t try to put coyotes or any other large animals in their cars if they suffer a collision.
Zoe Nakata, the animal sanctuary's executive director, said: “If an animal is large and is a predator — if their behavior and natural behaviors are aggressive — then we always, always ask people to be cautious and to call people to help.”
Wildlife experts have said coyotes and dogs are related because both are canines, but some differences distinguish the animals.
Coyotes have large ears and extremely bushy tails, and they look sleeker compared to domesticated dogs.
The U.S. Sun reported this month how an animal rescued from New York City’s East River was a coyote.
Dramatic pictures showed the first respondents pulling the animal to safety after responding to reports that a dog was battling river currents.
But, the animal, which was thrashing about in the water, wasn’t a pet.
Eastern coyotes can be found throughout New York State, New Jersey, and in some areas of New York City thanks to their highly adaptive diets and long bouts of hunting, Wildlife NYC reports.
The canines can live happily in different environments like urban forests, suburban neighborhoods, and parks.
