A DEAL hunter has given his three top tips to help Brits find the cheapest groceries.
With the cost of living crisis causing Brits up and down the country to tighten their belts, shoppers are being forced to scrounge for deals.
Here Savy shopper Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, has laid out rules that can help cut the cost of your weekly food shop.
Shop at Retailers That Sell Food Nearing Its Best Before Date
One way to get your groceries for a bargain price is to buy through websites online that focus on products that are nearing their best-before date.
Sites like Best Before It’s Gone, Motatos and Discount Dragon offer cupboard products, that are excess stock, discontinued, or approaching or past their best-before date at a fraction of their original cost.
At Best Before It’s Gone I recently got a twelve-pack of mini Crunchie chocolate bars for just 99p (Tesco had the same item on offer with Clubcard for £1.50).

They also had Amoy Singapore Curry Noodles for just £1.49 for a box of six packs. ASDA sells two packs for £2.
Best Before It’s Gone is relatively unknown but super popular with its members. So you may find the website is closed as they stock up again.
They announce when new orders are available on their Facebook page so you have to be really fast.”
Motatos is a bigger shop and I found it really good value. The savings may not be huge but it all adds up.

For example, I got two boxes of Kellogs Crunchy Nut reduced to £2.25 each instead of £2.99. I also got some Pizza Express dressing for 99p, when Sainsbury’s was selling it for £2.30.”
Be DISLOYAL to Supermarkets
Use a free Supermarket Price Comparison Tool to check which supermarket is cheapest for each product.”
You’ll find that Aldi may be cheapest for some things, but so will Marks & Spencer.”
Prices are changing so often at the moment, if you compare prices before you shop, you can save a lot of money.”
The Latest Deals app has a free supermarket price comparison tool built-in and allows you to search specific products to see which supermarket has it for the best price.
For example, I compared the cost of a 350g jar of Nutella spread. You can see the prices from supermarket to supermarket varied quite a bit for this item.
Sainsbury’s ended up being the cheapest, and was 44p cheaper than Morrisons for exactly the same item! These are online prices.
Use Too Good To Go EVERY DAY
My third tip is to use Too Good To Go every day. This is an app that lets you buy food that is excess or nearing its best before date at a fraction of its original cost.
You can get ‘magic bags’ of goodies from restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and also supermarkets. Recently Aldi have started doing them, and you can also find them from M&S and Zap.
You don’t get to choose the items, so there is a slight risk there. But, magic bags always have a higher value than what you paid. So, I think it’s worth the risk!
For example, my colleague Mia recently got a Too Good To Go Bag from Marks & Spencer.

Too Good To Go is now well-known, but you should stop thinking of it as a one-off quirky app, but something that you do every day.
