Indonesia earthquake reaches a magnitude of 6.3 in the Ambon region

INDONESIA has been rocked by 6.1 magnitude earthquake just a day after Papua New Guinea was hit by two tremors.

The quake was recorded 88 miles southwest of the city of Mount Hagen late on Monday.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage and a tsunami warning was not issued for Indonesia in the aftermath.

The quake hit less than 24 hours after Papua New Guinea was struck by a major quake of magnitude 7.5 in the early hours of Monday.

At least three people were killed and hundreds of buildings were damaged following a 6.5-magnitude earthquake on Indonesia's Java island in December.

The year before more than 100 people were killed and tens of thousands were left homeless when a quake struck Indonesia's western province of Aceh.
