The French magazine Charlie Hebdo is being labeled as racist for publishing a front-page image showing Queen Elizabeth II kneeling on Meghan Markle’s neck.

The image is accompanied by a headline asking why Meghan left Buckingham Palace and the answer, when translated into English, reading “Because I couldn’t breathe anymore.”

The mocking reference to George Floyd’s death, allegedly by a Minneapolis police office kneeling on him, immediately led to an outcry.

Halima Begum, the head of the British anti-racist think tank Runnymede Trust, tweeted that the image calling it “wrong on every level,” according to the Mirror.

Black and Asian Lawyers For Justice called the cover “outrageous, disgusting, fascistic racism.”

In an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the biracial Markle said the royal family raised “concerns” over the color of her son’s skin.

Twelve people were killed at the satirical Charlie Hebdo’s Paris office in 2015 by Islamic gunmen who said they were they were acting on behalf of Al-Qaeda to avenge the magazine’s decision to publish cartoons about the Prophet Mohammed.
