Missing Brit tourist, 56, found dead at bottom of cliff two days after leaving family for ‘rough track’ hike in Italy | The Sun

A BRITISH tourist has been found dead at the bottom of a cliff after vanishing from his family to go for a walk down a "rough track".

Gerard Christopher Turner, 56, was found dead after going on a solo trek while on holiday with his family in Lezzono near the Alps, Italy.

He was last seen at 2.30pm on June 30 as he left his family behind at the hotel.

And he was last heard from almost two hours later at 4.15pm, when he phoned his wife and said he going to be late, reports Il Giorno.

His family then became worried as he failed to return – attempting to call him at 6pm but finding his phone was unreachable.

They then notified the emergency services and a massive search was launched for Mr Turner.

Some 50 men searched the mountain range, including volunteers and technicians of the XIX Delegation of the Alpine Rescue, firefighters, Civil Protection and Carabinieri.

Searches were focused in the area of Carvagnana, between Nesso and Pognana Lario, where the man's mobile phone had last been detected.

Firefighters and cops also brought in dog units to search for him.

And a helicopter was deployed using a thermo scanner to try and find him.
