New Look set to shut down more shops in weeks – is yours among those facing closure?

  •  Clothes seller New Look is set to close two shops in Bristol and Rhyl in Wales
  • The fashion brand has shuttered dozens of shops as it boosts its online business

Clothes seller New Look is set to close even more of its high street stores following its decision to shutter seven of its UK outlets this winter.

The British fashion brand is set to close another two of its 400 shops as it increasingly pivots towards selling its products online.

New Look previously shut four of its high street outlets in January and another three the following month as the firm in March warned of possible redundancies.

Now, the company is set to close its shops in Bristol’s King’s Chase Shopping Centre and in the White Rose shopping complex in Rhyl, north Wales.

The fashion brand’s shop closures follow plans by top British retailers including Argos, House of Fraser and M&Co to close dozens of high street stores.

New Look was first launched in Taunton, Somerset by Anglo-Indian businessman Tom Singh in 1969.

The business expanded rapidly over the following decades across Britain, Europe, and Asia.

The fashion firm has, however, closed more than half of the 900 stores it had at its peak as it pushes ahead with plans to boost its e-commerce business.

The company outlined plans to close 60 of its shops in 2018, in a move that put 980 jobs at risk.

Major retailers including House of Fraser, M&Co, and Argos have all closed in recent months as high streets have been hit by the rise of online shopping and the cost-of-living crisis.

New Look on 16 July posted news of the plans, in announcing a closing down sale at its Rhyl store.

King’s Chase Shopping Centre in Bristol later announced its own New Look story would be closing in a post on its Facebook page.

‘Sadly, after many years with us here at Kings Chase, New Look will be closing their doors for the final time on Wednesday 9th August,’ the Bristol shopping mall said.

‘We would like to thank Carol and the New Look Kingswood team for their service over the years and we wish them all the very best for the future.

‘Make sure you stay tuned for exciting updates about who will be replacing them soon!’

In March, New Look outlined plans to cut 70 of its staff as pushed ahead with efforts to reorganise its business, according to Drapers.

The firm employs around 1,200 staff at its London and Weymouth head offices,

New Look was approached by MailOnline for comment.
