Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s killer Thomas Cashman could have his 42-year prison sentence increased to a whole life term after complaints it was too lenient.

Thomas Cashman, 34, was meant to kill drug dealer Joseph Nee, 36, but ended up shooting Olivia through her 46-year-old mother Cheryl’s hand on August 22, at their home in Dovecot, Liverpool.

The Attorney General’s Office told MailOnline: ‘We have received a request for this sentence to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

The office has 28 from sentencing to decide whether to refer the complaint to the Court of Appeal.

If that is the case, judges could increase Cashman’s 42-year sentence up to a whole life term.

Olivia’s devastated family cried tears of relief earlier this month as 34-year-old  Cashman was convicted of murder at Manchester Crown Court.

Cashman had tried to carry out his hit job on Nee while he was walking home from a friend’s house, but his gun jammed and Cashman’s target fled, barging into Olivia’s home in a bid to save himself.

Although he claimed in court he was only a cannabis dealer, he was allegedly known as a hitman who ‘thought nothing of putting a bullet in someone’.

Cashman, a father-of-two, insisted that around the time of the shooting he had been at a friend’s house where he counted £10,000 in cash and smoked a spliff.

During his evidence, he told the court: ‘I’m not a killer, I’m a dad.’

But a woman who had a fling with Cashman told the jury he came to her house after the shooting, where he changed his clothes and she heard him say he had ‘done Joey’.

Thomas Cashman’s lover went into witness protection shortly after she revealed to police how he fled to her home after killing Olivia.

Cashman told the court she was a ‘woman scorned’ and accused her of lying because she wanted to ‘ruin’ his life.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, Thomas Cashman’s former lover said she ‘ruined her life’ to help put the killer away.

She described how drug dealer Cashman had jumped over back gardens to seek refuge at her home on the night of August 22 last year.

After realising he had killed nine-year-old Olivia, she had reported the man she had been ‘infatuated’ with to the police – putting her own life on the line in the process.
