A paedophile teaching assistant who sent schoolgirls a ‘sex questionnaire’ asking them if they virgins, what their bra sizes were and what they wore in bed has been jailed for two years.
Kevin Doxey sent the girls a string of sexually-explicit messages while teaching at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, a court has heard.
The 27-year-old also sent a photograph of his private parts to one of the victims along with a winking emoji and a message saying ‘wish you were here’, Derby Crown Court was told.
In victim impact statements read to the court in person by two of the girls, one told how she attempted to take her own life because of what he did to her.
Doxey pleaded guilty to four counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child.
Kevin Doxey, 27, has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty in court to four counts of sexual communication with a child
The 27-year-old, who at the time worked at Anthony Gell School (pictured) in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, engaged in sexual communication with four schoolgirls
Jailing him for two years, Recorder Graham Huston said: ‘I have to deal with you as a persistent sexual predator who used his position of trust to exploit their vulnerabilities.
‘You have messed with the minds of these young women and you knew what you were doing was unlawful because you had undergone full safeguarding training.
‘I consider the witness statements and the victim personal statements of each complainant very carefully. You caused real harm to each one of them.’
Laura Blackband, prosecuting, said the police became involved when one of the schoolgirls told her parents about sexually explicit messages Doxey had been sending her.
More victims were then identified after officers seized and analysed his phone.
The prosecutor said: ‘He obtained the Snapchat details of four girls who were all students at the school and sent a series of sexually-charged messages to each of them.
‘The communication included a ‘sex questionnaire’ which had a huge number of questions on them which we say could have led to possible sexual activity.
‘(Victim one) was 15 and she was very distressed by the questions. He would ask her to pick a number and would get her to answer the questions.
Two out of the four girls read victim impact statements to Derby Crown Court (pictured)and told of Doxey’s predatory behaviour
‘She initially said no but when she was on a sleepover he texted her a (sexually explicit) photograph of himself with a winking emoji and three kisses. She showed it to one of her friends and she said ‘you need to tell someone about it’.’
Ms Blackband said the victim then told her parents and the police became involved and arrested Doxey and from his phone evidence was gathered relating to three more victims.
She said each of them was interviewed and told how the defendant had also sent them the questionnaire.
A second victim disclosed how Doxey asked her ‘weird stuff’ over Snapchat saying he had passed his driving test and could come over and pick her up, and asked her if she was a virgin, the court heard.
Ms Blackband said a third girl described being sent ‘inappropriate’ Instagram messages by the defendant.
She said: ‘In the questionnaire, he asked questions such as her bra size and ‘what do you wear in bed?’. She said she didn’t want to answer any of the questions but he replied ‘you have to’.’
Miss Blackband said the final victim told the police she too was sent the sex questionnaire which she ignored but the defendant badgered her asking ‘are you going to answer them?’.
She said when the allegations arose Doxey was initially suspended and then left to work in a supermarket.
Supported by their families, two of the four girls read their victim impact statements to the court.
One said: ‘I was at school, a place where I felt safe and confident and all of that was taken away from me by a person in authority. I was a child, he was an adult, a teacher.’
The second victim to read out her statement told how she attempted to take her own life adding ‘Kevin was one of the main causes of this. I recently saw him in Morrisons in Belper, I did not know he was working there and it brought back memories and I had to leave the store’.
Ms Blackband read out the remaining two statements. One said: ‘I was only a child at the time, when I look back now it was shocking’.
The fourth said: ‘School was meant to be a safe place but Kevin took that away from me.’
Doxey, of Cromford Road, Wirksworth, told the police that the sexually explicit photograph had been sent to his girlfriend, but when his phone was seized and analysed ‘the police looked at thousands of messages between them and not one was of a sexual nature’.
He later pleaded guilty to four counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child and has no previous convictions.
Dan Scothern, mitigating, said his client now works for a company called Clear Group and ‘understands the seriousness of what he had done’.
He said: ‘In his words, ‘I understand what I have done and the huge amount of damage I have caused not just to the victims but to their families and my family’. He says ‘If I could go back and change everything I would’.’
The defendant will also be on the sex offender register for 10 years and was handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
