A TAXI driver has died in a car crash which left two people, including his passenger, with serious injuries.

The female passenger and the man who was driving the van are still fighting for their lives following the fatal crash on the A494 between Rhydymain and Dolgellau, North Wales.

Emergency services were called to reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a blue-coloured Skoda taxi and a white-coloured Peugeot van.

An air ambulance, as well as road emergency vehicles, were called to the A494 at 8:20am.

Sadly, the male driver of the taxi was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

The female passenger from the taxi, and the male driver of the van have both been airlifted to hospital in Stoke.

Both are said to have life threatening injuries, North Wales Police said.

HORROR CRASH

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses.

He said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man’s family as they try to come to terms with what has happened, and it is very important that we establish what led to this tragic incident.

“We are appealing for witnesses, and are particularly keen on speaking to the driver of a dark blue BMW estate, that was travelling on the A494 towards the Bala area shortly before the collision.

“We also urge anybody who may have bene in the area and who has dash cam footage to please get in touch.”

The road remains closed and is likely to be closed for some time and diversions are in place.

Anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have been travelling along the A494 and who has dash cam footage should contact officers at the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit.
