UK weather LIVE: Heavy rain warning across London and South East with Met Office amber alert in place as Storm Babet chaos continues

Heavy rain and fog set to bring further chaos

Britons woke up to another miserable start this morning with heavy rain and fog set to bring further chaos across the country. Here is the full story on MailOnline:

Met Office fog warning in place for England

Separately to the rain warnings, a Met Office yellow fog warning was issued overnight just before 3am – and runs until 11am this morning.

Forecasters predicted that the fog would be ‘dense in places’ and lead to disruption.

The warning covers the East of England, from East Anglia to north of Hull, and stretches across the Midlands to take in North East Wales and North West England around Manchester.

Yellow warning for rain in place until 10am

The amber warning follows a yellow warning for rain across the South of England and Wales from 6pm last night until 10am this morning, which remains in place.

Within this warning area, the Met Office said that much of the south coast of England and South Wales was likely to receive 15mm (0.6in) to 25mm (1in) of rain.

Some areas along the Bristol Channel and English Channel could receive 50mm (2in) to 60mm (2.4in) of rainfall, but forecasters said this would be very localised.

Met Office issues amber warning today

A fresh amber weather warning has been issued along the south coast of England with flooding and disruption predicted this morning.

The amber warning came into effect just after 6am with no advance notice and runs until 8am, covering much of Hampshire including Southampton and Portsmouth.

The Isle of Wight is at the centre of the warning area with 30mm (1.2in) to 40mm (1.6in) of rain likely and 70mm (2.8in) to 80mm (3.1in) possible in some places.
