Violence erupts as three people killed and 32 injured in New York City and shootings spike by 11%

AT LEAST three people have been killed and 32 were injured in a spate of violence to hit New York City over the weekend.

The number of shooting victims in the Big Apple stands at 217, according to New York City crime data up to March 13 – spiking by 11 percent compared to last year.


Twenty-nine people were shot between Friday and Sunday in 24 separate incidents, according to the NYPD.

Two city Corrections officers were injured when shots were fired outside a Queens nightclub on Saturday.

Gunfire erupted when a man, who had been kicked out of the Showtime Bar and Lounge, allegedly shot into the nightclub.

The two victims, 29 and 31, were not known to the suspect and not the intended target.

The officers were off-duty at the time as they were attending a party.

Cops said the gunman fled and hasn’t been arrested.

Four shootings were reported within four hours as violence hit upper Manhattan and the Bronx on Friday night.

The victims included two men who were injured in separate shootings just minutes apart in East New York, according to a report by the New York Post.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the head during a dispute inside a deli on Pitkin Avenue near Wyona Street around 4pm on Sunday.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition Monday morning, according to police.

No arrests have been made in connection to these incidents while a 27-year-old man was shot in the torso on the northbound C train platform at Shepherd Avenue.

The victim was also taken to Brookdale in stable condition.

There are two suspects being sought, and at least one of whom is known to the victim, the report said.

SPATE OF VIOLENCE

A man was grazed in the right forearm in a drive-by in the Van Nest section of the Bronx on Sunday night.

He was treated on scene and didn't need to be hospitalized, police said,

Cops revealed it’s wasn't clear if he was the intended target.

There were also six stabbings over the weekend, one of which was fatal, according to the Fresno Bee.

Murders have dipped so far this year – from 82 to 76 compared to the same time last year – but the number of shooting victims has gone up.

In a bid to drive down gun violence, Gov Kathy Hochul has outlined plans that will give judges more discretion to detain criminal defendants on bail and make some gun-related offenses subject to arrest instead of a desk appearance ticket.

Gunfire also erupted across the country amid Spring Break festivities.

One person was killed at a car show in Dumas, Arkansas, while four were hospitalized with minor injuries during the final weekend of the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.

Two shootings hit Miami Beach within 48 hours amid spring break celebrations, leaving five people wounded.

And, ten people were injured as gunfire erupted in Dallas on Sunday.
