NEIGHBOURS living next to an eyesore property have described the "absolute hell" of trying to get the house torn down.

Locals in Willenhall in the West Midlands have rallied for years to demand the "awful"home be demolished.

The four-bedroom partially built property was erected without permission and was set apart from the historic town's neat, tidy houses.

Now, weary residents may finally have their wish as Government inspectors have ordered owners Gurwinder Singh and Rajwinder Kaur to raze the property to the ground.

The couple were initially granted permission for a side extension but infuriated locals when the original modest semi-detached home was replaced with the "horrendous" property.

A flurry of complaints were lodged and petitions signed by residentsbetween Sandringham Avenue and Arundel Road in opposition to the move.

Mr Singh and Mrs Kaur have maintained that planning permission should've been granted.

One local said: “It’s good news because if it was allowed to stay, that would mean there would be no point in having planning laws because you could build what you want where you want.

“It’s great it is coming down.

"It’s been dreadful having to stare at that, absolutely awful.

"Someone described it as a mini Travelodge in a housing estate.

“It is wonderful around here and we have a really diverse community so when there is trouble we all come together.

"Everybody is happy now – it has been a long time coming. It’s been a stressful, tough few years.”

Other locals are unconvinced that the ruling will signal the end of the saga.

“I’ll believe it when it happens", another said.

“Unless he’s going to get permission to build on there properly, which it doesn’t sound like he will, I can’t see it happening.

"It’s been horrendous. It’s like being in jail, looking at that.

"Everybody around the whole area knows about it and they always ask what it’s like living near it – it’s a nightmare.”

Willenhall North councillor Adam Hicken sympathised with residents' concerns and has applauded the move.

He said: “I think that this is the right decision and it sends a very clear message that we will not tolerate such behaviour.

"I hope that work is conducted at pace to demolish this eyesore that has impacted neighbouring residents and the amenity of the area.

“I would also like to thank Councillor Stacie Elson for her hard work.

"As a newly elected councillor, she fought hard to make sure that both the landowner and the Council were held to account and now the right outcome has been achieved”.
