Did Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling secretly get married? That’s what fans seem to think after Mendes showed off a tattoo that pays tribute to her longtime partner. On Nov. 15, the “Lost River” actor posted an Instagram photo spotlighting an inner wrist tattoo that reads “de Gosling” in a black typewriter-style font. She simply captioned it with a crossed-swords emoji between two black hearts.

In Hispanic culture, some women add their husband’s surname to the end of theirs with the preposition “de,” which means “of.” The romantic gesture could hint that Mendes tied the knot with Gosling in private at some point — or, at the very least, it reaffirms their dedication to one another.

Though Mendes’s followers were quick to assume the tattoo is brand new, she’s actually been spotted with the ink as far back as 2020 and confirmed “it’s old” while responding to a fan’s comment about it. She also prominently featured the design in an Instagram post on Sept. 1, though it didn’t drum up quite as much marriage speculation as her latest picture. The tattoo is the only one we know of for Mendes, whereas Gosling has a handful of tattoos in his collection, including several on his left arm.

Mendes and Gosling have been together for more than a decade after first meeting on the set of “The Place Beyond the Pines” in 2011. They share two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, and are extremely private about their relationship and home life, rarely making public appearances together.

Mendes isn’t the only celeb who’s paid tribute to their partner with a sentimental tattoo. Dwyane Wade recently inked wife Gabrielle Union’s initials on his wrist to celebrate her 50th birthday, and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham has so many tattoos dedicated to Nicola Peltz Beckham, we almost lost count. Who knows, perhaps Gosling has a “de Mendes” tattoo hiding somewhere on his body?
