Gemma Collins delighted as she gives update on dad Alan's Covid battle

Gemma Collins has shared an update on her dad Alan’s battle with coronavirus ahead of her 40th birthday.

The former Towie star turns 31 at the end of January and ahead of her milestone birthday, Gemma has already received the best present she could have asked for.

She revealed that her dad Alan, 73, who was hospitalised with Covid-19 has finally been given the all clear to return home.

Gemma filled fans in on the latest episode of her BBC Sounds podcast and recalled how doctors called her father the ‘miracle man’, after fighting for his life in his battle with the virus.

She said: ‘It has been a terrible start to the New Year because my dad has been fighting for his life in hospital from Covid, however, my dad comes home this week, so it’s the best birthday I could wish for.’

Not fazed that she faces seeing out her birthday in lockdown, Gemma continued: ‘Yes, I can’t have the party that was planned. I had arranged so many singers to come to a venue I booked last year and it’s not going to happen, but you know what it doesn’t matter – my dad has survived Covid-19.’

‘They actually called my dad the miracle man in hospital because my dad is 73, he’s a very fit man, however, Covid really ripped through my family,’ Gemma said.

‘It was so heartbreaking to see my dad fighting for his life, but we won’t dwell on that.’

Sharing her plans for her birthday, Gemma continued: ‘We are in lockdown and I have ordered myself a big cake and the fact that I can sit with my dad on my birthday and eat cake is absolutely priceless.’

Last month, Gemma revealed that her dad had caught coronavirus and warned fans about the severity of the illness. Alongside a picture of her holding her dad’s hand, she wrote: ‘I’m so scared right now my dad is so unwell I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime.’

‘Covid is so scary laying next to my dad holding his hand right now. I am showing you this to create awareness of how real Covid is.’

Gemma’s mother Joan, who had featured on Towie with her, had also tested positive for the virus and the star was seen thanking the NHS for their efforts in looking after her parents while they were unwell.

Despite a tough few months, Gemma also managed to tick off yet another important milestone, as she revealed she has finally bought her dream home.

She told fans on Instagram: ‘It’s been a very tough couple of months but some good news today to share I finally got my dream home and now have my keys #newchapter.

‘I don’t have a clue how I’m going to style it yet but it’s going to be fabulous as soon as my dad is home from hospital and he sees it then my heart will be full and I can get cracking.’
