Kate Garraway fears people are fed up of her talking about sick husband Derek in update

Kate Garrawayshared her worry that people might be “fed up” of her talking about her husband Derek’s continuous health battle, as she appeared on Lorraine on Friday.

TheGood Morning Britainpresenter, 55, was joined by her co-hostBen Shephard , 47, on the show, as they discussed the launch of ITV’s 1 Million Minute campaign, pledging to help those suffering with loneliness across the UK.

Speaking with host Lorraine Kelly, talk soon turned to the topic of Kate's husband and his health progress.

Derek became seriously ill with Covid-19 in early 2020, and was hospitalised for over a year. Since returning home in April 2021, Derek has required care and assistance as he has struggled to recover to full health.

“You know, it is an onslaught — it is a long onslaught," Kate said on the show, as she gave an update on Derek.

"I can see he has better days; he has worse days — he's thankfully at home now. It's been a long battle to get him back home again."

She continued: "I think it's very tough on him but it's very tough on the people around me.

"All jokes aside, Ben for all his unbelievable cheek, has been extraordinary because I can't help think all the people around me, people at GMB and radio as well, must be fed up to the back teeth.

"That is the problem I think if you are caring or have a long-term situation."

Ben reassured Kate this wasn’t the case as he expressed support for his co-host during the emotional chat.

In October, Kate accepted her second National Television Award, for her documentary on Derek’s recovery from Covid-19.

At the ceremony, the presenter gave another update on her husband’s health in her acceptance speech after Derek had been re-admitted to hospital at the time.

Kate shared that her husband was continuing to “fight” to recover to full health and would be returning home soon.

She said at the podium: “I’ve got my daughter here, Darcey. We managed to speak to Derek, he is back in hospital at the moment, fighting on so incredibly. We’re hoping he is coming home again soon.”

Kate continued: "Darcey represents all the family. I want to thank Derek for his incredible fighting spirit, we love you.

“I want to thank ITV for being so brave to put something which actually is touched in all the incredible documentaries, about care."
