Texans are still reeling from the aftermath of storms that left us without water and power in some places for days, causing untold suffering and dozens of deaths. Not only are Texans grappling with a lost of property and life but many are now receiving electricity bills in the thousands.

Beyonce’s BeyGOOD foundation is partnering with Adidas and Bread of Life to provide funds for Texans in crisis due to the storm. Matthew McConaughey, another fellow Texan, has announced that his just keep living Foundation will be hosting a virtual benefit in a couple of weeks. Matthew said he and his wife Camila want to help support Texans in need. Below is more on the benefit via Fox7Austin:

“Yes, as most of you know, my home state of Texas was just hit with the worst winter storm it’s had in the last 70 years. It left a whole lot of people without power, without water, and without a whole lot of basic necessities,” McConaughey said. “And while most of the power’s thankfully been restored, the busted water lines from hospitals, to so many homes, has left so many Texans without the bare necessities they need to survive.”

In the video, McConaughey says the couple is presently working with organizations on the ground in Texas but is putting the benefit together to “directly help the necessary long-term effort to rebuild Texas and take care of those in need.”

McConaughey also said that he will be making daily Instagram posts letting Texans know how to keep safe, find resources, help volunteer and support others, as well as provide checklists to help residents do all they can and need to do to stabilize, rebuild, and get back to living.

He also stressed the need for Texans to check on their neighbors and to support each other following the winter storm and during the rebuilding effort. “If you’re a have, please help out a have not, there’s a bunch of them in your neighborhood, across the street, wherever you can get to,” McConaughey said. “If you can, it is needed, please do.”

The one thing that I can say about Texans is how we come together when we are in crisis. I love that Beyonce and Matthew are now doing philanthropic work to help Texans come out of this crisis. I’ll admit that Matthew has been irritating me lately but this is a good thing. I am proud to see other Texans swooping in to assist, unlike several of our elected officials who fled the state when people were literally freezing the death. Speaking of elected officials, I have the sneaky suspicion that Matthew may be gearing up to run for office, but I digress.

Matthew also stated in his video that he will be posting information on Instagram to help Texans stay safe and find resources. The only issue is not everyone has access to Instagram but I do hope that enough folks will be able to spread the word. I also found his statement about using the money to build long-term efforts interesting. I wonder if he is talking about helping rebuild infrastructure? Either way, Texans know when to fold them and at this point we will take whatever help we can get.
