This morning fans were overjoyed as Holly Willoughby made a surprise appearance in the Apple+ show Ted Lasso.

The hit comedy series has worked hard to enrich itself in British culture as an outsider American coach takes on the duty of managing a British football team.

The second season of the show worked hard to tap into British television to ground itself by featuring popular shows and names to max out the realism.

As the character of Jamie Tartt, played by Phil Dunster, is booted off of the Love Island style spoof show Lust Conquers All, he makes a guest appearance on This Morning with Holly and Phillip Schofield.

In the scene, Holly and Phil question Jamie about his romance with the character of Amy on Love Conquers All, with Jamie saying: "Nah, no. I was just playing a game, do you know what I mean?

"Find the fittest girl there, have sex with her in the toilet, ask to marry her. Strategy."

Holly puts on a performance of being shocked by his answer as the conversation moves back to football, the career Jamie made a name for himself in on the first season of the show.

Phil asks Jamie about having left Manchester City to pursue a career in reality television, with Jamie saying he’s looking to return to Manchester now he’s off the Love Island spoof show.

A surprise message from the Manchester City team director reveals that they won’t be inviting him back onto the team.

As Jamie is stunned by the news, Holly cuts to the break with a hilarious fake story tease: "When we come back, have scientists really discovered low-fat custard that doesn’t make you sad?"

Fans of the show were delighted to see the This Morning cast appearance, with one saying: "Just when you thought Ted Lasso couldn't get better… Holly Willoughby (and Phil) show up!"

Another wrote: "MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR ABOUT HOLLY WILLOUGHBY AND PHILLIP SCHOFIELD #TedLasso."

Ted Lasso didn’t stop there though as the character of Roy Kent, played by Brett Goldstein, who retired in the first season of the show aimed to become a football commentator later in the episode.

Walking into his new job it was revealed that Roy would be appearing on Saturday Soccer, with football icons Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara appearing alongside him in a hilarious interview where he bluntly gives his opinion on the Chelsea football team.
