If you’ve been keeping up with Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenure at Louis Vuitton, then you know that the French maison’s artistic director of womenswear loves a fashion sound system. He sent monogrammed boombox-shaped trunks down the runway in Rio for resort 2017. Then he made a high-top sneaker—inspired by retro basketball shoes—aptly named The Booombox for prefall 2020. Now, the designer is taking this musical affinity to new heights with the Horizon Light Up, a Bluetooth speaker that actually plays tunes.
In true Vuitton fashion, the luxury house didn’t skimp on the details. In addition to producing top-tier acoustics, the speaker features two playful riffs on the brand’s signature Monogram Flower pattern. Leather accents add panache to the woofer, while the floral top ring has colorful LED backlighting that synchronizes to the beat. Combined, they offer a unique entertainment experience that’s as visual as it is auditory.
If the Horizon Light Up’s design looks familiar, it’s because it was modeled after one of Ghesquière’s It bags, the Toupie (French for “spinning top”), a quirky UFO-shaped minaudière that debuted for prefall 2019. Bella Hadid sported an updated version in black patent-leather with a fringed tassel to Louis Vuitton’s fall 2021 haute couture show in Paris earlier this month.
Much like that futuristic take on the evening clutch, the speaker is a great example of the storied maison’s wanderlust spirit. It comes with a detachable leather wrist strap and a protective pouch to keep it safe while on the go. Plus, it has a small dock at the base that allows you to get the party started from wherever you are.
The Horizon Light Up arrives at Louis Vuitton stores on July 30. If you want to pregame, shop the OG spinning top bag that inspired the design, below.
