Celebrity plastic surgery denials

Did they or didn’t they? When celebs step out looking a little different — or when they don’t appear to age — critics are quick to assume that their look is the result of plastic surgery. While some stars openly admit to going under the knife to enhance their appearances, others deny it. On Jan. 15, 2021, Jennifer Lopez posted a video on Instagram revealing the results of the That Limitless Glow Sheet Mask from her new beauty line. A fan took to the comments to accuse the singer-actress of achieving her ageless look with something more than a mask. “You definitely have Botox. And tons of it. And it’s all good. Just saying,” the person wrote. J.Lo responded, “LOL that’s just my face!!! For the 500 millionth time… I have never done Botox or any other injectables or surgery!! Just sayin’.” She added, “Get you some JLO BEAUTY and feel beautiful in your skin!! And here is another JLO Beauty secret: try spending your time being more positive, kind and uplifting of others…don’t spend your time trying to bring others down…that will keep you youthful and beautiful too!!!” Now keep reading for more celeb plastic surgery denials…

There’s no denying supermodel Bella Hadid’s beauty, but questions have long swirled about whether or not she’s ever gone under the knife. Photos that can be found online show Bella before her runway days with a different looking nose, though she’s never fessed up to going under the knife. During a 2018 chat with InStyle magazine, Bella set the record straight and urged people to fact check themselves before making comments. “People think I got all this surgery or did this or that. And you know what? We can do a scan on my face, darling. I’m scared of putting filler into my lips. I wouldn’t want to mess up my face,” she said.

Kristin Cavallari quickly shut down rumors after the Instagram account @injectorjess accused her of getting Botox, lip, cheek and under-eye fillers. “I’ve actually never touched my face, but thanks for the compliment I guess,” the reality TV star and Uncommon James designer said in response to a side-by-side of her from 2009 circa “The Hills” and from the Golden Globes red carpet in 2019. “Maybe get your facts straight before you start making claims like that,” she clapped back. “I’m proud to be injectable free.”

Ever since Kim Kardashian West became famous, people have questioned whether or not her larger-than-life backside is real. To prove to the world — and to sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, who dared her to have her bottom X-rayed — that her best asset was indeed natural, she asked her family’s doctor to scan her shapely derrière and taped it for a 2011 episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” The verdict? Kim does not have gluteal implants. The following year, she also denied making changes to her face, sticking to the good-old makeup excuse. She told Harper’s Bazaar in 2012, “Everyone always thinks I’ve had my nose done or my lips done or just anything to my face… It’s so funny, it just depends on how your nose is contoured.”

With pop star status comes inevitable scrutiny, and Ariana Grande has been the subject of countless plastic surgery accusations. The singer was rumored to have gotten a boob job, lip injections, a brow lift and cheek shaving and while her look has certainly evolved over the years, she’s dispelled all claims she’s gone under the knife. “I was like, ‘You’re comparing a picture of me from when I’m 14 years old to when I’m 21, and I’m wearing a push-up bra,” Ariana said in a 2014 video. What sparked the changes? Puberty. “That’s why I’m on the cover of [a] magazine and they’re saying I got plastic surgery. G*****, puberty went nice,” she quipped. “It came late, but she finally came through for me.”

Olivia Munn took to Instagram in February 2016 to explain the changes in her face after tabloids started to speculate that she’d had work done. The “Newsroom” actress credited her look to a 12-pound weight loss, reshaping her eyebrows, getting rid of sunspots and eating Japanese potatoes that supposedly keep wrinkles away. “When your face changes because of makeup, it’s hard to let people know that you’re not actually doing surgery or fillers,” she told Fashion magazine a few months later.

In a 2020 video posted to TikTok, plastic surgeon Daniel Barrett scrutinized two photos of Hailey Bieber side by side and speculated that the model had gotten work done. “Pay attention to the nose. What do you think? Well, I’ll tell you what I think. I think it’s physically impossible without getting a little bit of help from someone like myself to go from this picture to that picture,” he said in the clip. He also went on to suggest that the model underwent procedures like skin tightening and jawline contouring and had tried lip and cheek fillers. A lawyer claiming to represent Hailey and husband Justin Bieber sent the plastic surgeon a cease-and-desist letter that accused him of defaming her. Days earlier, Hailey had taken to the comments in an Instagram post on a fan account that speculated about whether she did or didn’t have work done, writing in part, “I’ve never touched my face.”

Katy Perry has admitted to trying some procedures but has denied having any major augmentations done. “I haven’t had any [plastic surgery],” she told Refinery29 in 2018. “I’ve done lasers and got [filler] injections under my eyes for the hollowing — which I’d recommend for everyone who wants a solution for their dark circles — but all of my assets are real. People tend to think they are fake, but it doesn’t really matter.” The pop singer went on to defend people who chose to try plastic surgery, explaining that she thinks it’s a decision they’re free to make for themselves. “We’re getting away from that negative stigma about physical alterations. Of course, always be your authentic self — but if someone wants a nose job that makes them feel better, and they love their profile more because of it, it’s like ‘Go ahead!’ Do whatever makes you feel better about yourself.”

When Renee Zellweger arrived at ELLE’s 21st Annual Women in Hollywood celebration in October 2014, many felt that the A-lister’s face looked radically different. From her puffy cheeks and wrinkle-free forehead to seemingly wider eyes, her new look inspired lots of chatter. But did she go under the knife to achieve it? Not according to Renee, who told People magazine that the buzz was “silly.” “I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows,” she said. She wrote an op-ed in The Huffington Post in August 2016 entitled “We Can Do Better” where she reiterated her plastic surgery denial, writing, “Not that it’s anyone’s business, but I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes. This fact is of no true import to anyone at all, but that the possibility alone was discussed among respected journalists and became a public conversation is a disconcerting illustration of news/entertainment confusion and society’s fixation on physicality.”

Meg Ryan was once known as America’s Sweetheart, which means everyone was well-acquainted with her face. So when she showed up at the 2016 Tony Awards looking like a different person, fans took notice. Though she didn’t admit to getting anything done, she did attempt to change the subject when asked, telling Net-A-Porter, “There’s a lot of hatred in the world today, it’s so easy to judge. Imagine being a hater, how stupid! My women friends are not sitting around talking about… well, sometimes there are conversations like that, but the people I value talk about kids growing up, what kind of world they are going into, what we are eating, what we are breathing.”

Was Uma Thurman’s odd new look at the New York City premiere of “The Slap” in 2015 the product of strange makeup — or plastic surgery? According to her makeup artist, Troy Surratt, the difference in Uma’s appearance was the result of minimal makeup and a bold lip. The actress addressed her strange look on the “Today” show too, saying, “Guess nobody liked my makeup.”

There’s no denying Megan Fox has always been beautiful, but it’s obvious to some that her lips have grown a bit over the years. The star has insisted that her lips are natural, and has even said that she doesn’t subscribe to that old Hollywood favorite, Botox, either. In 2010, she told Allure, “I will say for people who question the authenticity of my lips, you can clearly see that my lips are my lips.”

While fans have noticed Paris Hilton’s appearance change a bit over the years — including, they’ve claimed, a slight modification to the tip of her nose — the star has maintained that she’s never had any work done. “I have never done anything in my life, not even Botox,” she told New You magazine in 2015. “I have nothing against it. Like, all my friends have done everything — boobs, nose, chin, cheeks — I live in Hollywood so I’m used to seeing it.” In 2018, Paris told People magazine that she looks young because she’s “always been obsessed with skincare. I’ve never done any Botox, filler — no plastic surgery in my life.”

For years, Khloe Kardashian has claimed that her look is the result of dieting, exercising and contouring: “[My makeup artists’] contour game is so on-point that I feel like I get a nose job every single day — and I love it!” she wrote on her app in 2015. But the truth finally came out on a 2016 episode of “Kocktails With Khloe” when the reality TV star admitted that she’d gotten fillers before estranged husband Lamar Odom’s near-fatal October 2015 overdose in a Nevada brothel. “I did it and then Lamar’s accident happened,” she said. (Khloe also claimed that she’d had the fillers dissolved not long after.)

Blake Lively has never fessed up to a nose job, yet fans haven’t stopped speculating. Comparing pictures of the star back in her “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” days to more current photos shows that there is certainly something different about the center of her face — and the star has refused to directly answer the question.

Kylie Jenner and her larger lips were a topic of conversation for years. Fans speculated about whether or not a then-teenaged Kylie had plumped her pout via a doctor’s office procedure or if her fuller lips were really the product of over-lining as she’d claimed in 2014. Though Kylie never outright denied getting lip enhancements, she did skirt around the issue (“These plastic surgery rumors hurt my feelings to be honest and are kinda insulting,” she tweeted in October 2014). Then she finally revealed the truth on an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” confirming that she did indeed have “temporary lip fillers.” Since then, she’s been accused of having her breasts done (“never,” she tweeted in 2016) and her bum enhanced (“No a** implants,” she claimed on her app in 2017), though she did reveal in 2018 that she’d opted to remove her lip fillers, though it appears it was a temporary pause.

Et tu, Kendall? Kendall Jenner made headlines in early 2017 when she deleted her Instagram account, only to reemerge with a set of much larger lips. When it came time to address the speculation, Kendall took a page out of her sisters’ books, blaming makeup and explaining that sibling Kylie Jenner did her makeup that day and applied too much lipliner. That didn’t quite explain all of the rest of her outings with a fuller pout, but we digress…

In February 2016, Gillian Anderson took to Facebook to shoot down a Daily Mail report that claimed she’d had work done to her face. “If it weren’t so sad, this boll**** would have made my day,” the “X-Files” actress wrote while sharing a link to the article, in which “experts” alleged that she’d had work done to her nose, lips, cheeks, chin and more.

After Ashley Judd promoted her TV show “Missing” on Canada’s “The Marilyn Denis Show” in 2012, many buzzed about her rounder, plumper face, which sparked rumors that the actress might have gone under the knife. But that wasn’t the case at all! In a statement published on TheDailyBeast.com, the actress revealed that her noticeably different appearance was the result of a medical condition, not a plastic surgeon’s handiwork. “When I am sick for more than a month and on medication (multiple rounds of steroids), the accusation is that because my face looks puffy, I have ‘clearly had work done,'” she wrote.

In March 2015, Us Weekly reported that Chelsea Handler had undergone a breast lift because she was “stressed about looking saggy.” The funnywoman took to Twitter to shoot down the report, writing, “Um…there have been a lot of men who’ve touched my boobies, but not one of them has ever been a doctor.” She also tweeted a topless photo of herself as further proof that she hadn’t gone under the knife.

“She went away for a two-week vacation, then came back, and was more… buxom,” a former roommate of future first lady Melania Trump, photographer Matthew Atanian, told GQ in 2016. But Donald Trump’s wife was quick to shoot down the claim that she’d had her breasts augmented during her 20s: “I didn’t make any changes,” she told GQ. “A lot of people say I am using all the procedures for my face. I didn’t do anything,” she added. “I live a healthy life, I take care of my skin and my body. I’m against Botox, I’m against injections; I think it’s damaging your face, damaging your nerves. It’s all me. I will age gracefully, as my mom does.”

Tori Spelling has long been the subject of plastic surgery rumors. While she’s admitted to getting a nose job and breast implants, she maintains that she’s had nothing else done. “The one thing for me that has stuck forever was the plastic surgery thing,” she told People magazine in August 2019. “I literally had my nose done and my boobs done, and that’s it. I’m constantly reading that I’ve done more.” The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star continued, “People have been talking about me having plastic surgery since I was 17. I remember my dad [producer Aaron Spelling] saying, ‘Don’t worry. It will go away next week.’ But that one thing has stayed with me my entire career!”

Model Irina Shayk has publicly denied having lip injections to achieve her perfect pout. “Look, if somebody wants to inject their lips because they feel bad, God bless them. I don’t judge them,” she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2019. “I always promote natural beauty because I think we live in this perfect world where everyone wants to be perfect. But I’m not perfect. Sometimes I have a double chin. Perfection doesn’t exist.” She went on, “And if I read [a headline] and it’s like, ‘She had injections, her lips look like dumplings,’ I just laugh because it just makes me, I don’t want to say it makes me happy, but I think in this life you have to have a sense of humor,” she explained, noting, “With everything that’s going on in the world, you have to take it easy. Some people are going to love you, some people are going to hate you. It doesn’t really disturb my life.”

Melanie Griffith appeared to have gone under the knife in March 2017 after pictures of the star surfaced in which she looked nearly unrecognizable. Despite some obvious differences — a tighter face and bigger lips — Melanie first denied that she’d had any procedures done but eventually came clean… sort of. She didn’t cop to everything, but told Porter magazine later that year that she dissolved some of her fillers, explaining, “I was so hurt I went to a different doctor and he started dissolving all of this s*** that this other woman doctor had put in. Hopefully, I look more normal now.”

There’s no question about Lil’ Kim looking different these days, but the rapper has refused to open up about any plastic surgery she might have had except to tell radio DJ Angie Martinez in 2005 that she once went under the knife after an abusive ex-boyfriend broke her nose. Though Kim’s eyes, cheeks, nose, jawline and lips all look considerably different these days, she’s never shared her secret.

Kim Zolciak-Biermann has fessed up to having a tummy tuck and a boob job, but one surgical change she won’t admit to? Getting her nose done! She has denied it repeatedly, even telling “Entertainment Tonight” in 2015, “I have had no surgery on my face, period!” As for her lips? Well, she had no choice but to admit they were fake after her injections were botched. She told Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” in December 2017 that she was heading to Beverly Hills to have the mess-up fixed.

Aubrey O’Day’s way of denying getting her lips done? Just blame it on makeup! She once told Celebuzz that her makeup is “constantly affecting the way people see me in regards to everybody thinking I’ve had plastic surgery.” Sure, Aubrey!

While “Vanderpump Rules” stars like Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, LaLa Kent and Brittany Cartwright have been open about their plastic surgery procedures, Scheana Shay has insisted that she’s never gone under the knife. During a 2016 reunion episode, the star took to Twitter to address rumors that she’d gotten Botox. “I lost weight. I didn’t have work done. Believe what you want. My makeup is better and my face is thinner. Simple as that,” she explained. However, she quickly retracted her statement and fessed up to having “Botox since 2011” and lip fillers for two years, though in March 2016 maintained that there’s “NOTHING plastic about me and I’m sick of saying it.”

Ask Jenni “JWoww” Farley if she’s had a breast augmentation (or two!) and she’ll proudly fess up. Accuse her of getting work done on her face, however, and she’ll appear on “The Wendy Williams Show” to debunk the accusations. In 2011, JWoww told Wendy why her face looked noticeably different. “They say I got my cheeks done, they say I got my nose, my chin. I just lost 15 pounds, and it was all in my face and neck,” she said. “That’s what was insulting to me, because I was, like, ‘What did my nose look like 15 pounds ago?'”

A superstar who swears she’s never gone under the knife? Mariah Carey, though despite having a significantly smaller nose than the one that appears in her yearbook photo, she still claimed she has never had anything done — insisting that any differences in her appearance are the result of aging or weight loss.

Nicki Minaj remained relatively mum when rumors swirled alleging that she’d enhanced her breasts and backside. But she wasn’t so quiet when rumblings of a nose job surfaced. During an appearance on “Extra” in 2013, the rapper claimed that she’d never had any work done on her face and that any change in her facial features could be credited to the magic of makeup. “They’ll see contour and think you’ve had surgery on your nose. It’s makeup, people,” she said. “Look at ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and you’ll see how you can make your nose look any shape you want.”

Porsha Williams addressed rumors that she’d gotten butt implants during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” in November 2015. “This is real Georgia meat!” she told host Andy Cohen. “This is 100% cornbread fed,” added the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star, who’s previously copped to getting breast implants.

Kate Gosselin is no stranger to plastic surgery: The mother of eight famously underwent a free tummy tuck, which was chronicled on “Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later.” But when the celebuverse began buzzing about whether or not she’d gotten a facelift after flattering photos emerged on her first day as a CouponCabin.com blogger in 2011, Kate swiftly shot down the allegations in an entry titled “Facing Facts: I Reveal My Secrets…” Wrote the mother of eight: “I will confirm I have not had one (I am only 36!!!), but I will take all of the talk about how rested and young I look as a compliment!”

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb weren’t the only ones who thought Whitney Cummings got a facelift. “Well, I did get a new face,” the funnywoman joked when the “Today” show hosts remarked that they barely recognized her in July 2015. “I did this weird thing that nobody likes to do anymore where I gained weight,” she said of her changed appearance. “I gained like 25 pounds, which I think I needed to. I was way too skinny before.” Added the actress-comedian, “Here’s the thing: When you’re on television, you get confused. I looked like I was passing away … and I put on, like 20 pounds. I think [my face] filled out … People think I got a facelift.” Chimed in Hoda, “Yeah, that’s what we thought.”

For years, people have questioned whether reality star Coco Austin’s backside is real. To put an end to the faux-booty rumors, Coco underwent an ultrasound on an episode of “The Doctors.” After Dr. Andrew Ordon completed the scan, he announced that Ice-T’s wife’s behind is “all natural.”

After many speculated that NeNe Leakes had some work done to her face, she went on “Bethenny” in September 2013 to dispel the rumors. The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star pulled back her hair and revealed her wrinkles in all their glory for Bethenny to inspect. The TV host pulled out a magnifier, examined NeNe’s face, and proclaimed that the TV personality was indeed plastic-surgery-free! In 2016, however, NeNe confirmed on “Watch What Happens Live” that that she recently had a rhinoplasty following her first one in 2010. “Yes, I had my nose done again,” she told a caller.

“Dumb & Dumber” actress Lauren Holly addressed ongoing rumors that she’d had work done to her face during an appearance on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” in March 2016. “I’ve been accused of having a ton [of plastic surgery],” she said. “I haven’t had any.” Jim Carrey’s ex attributed her changed appearance to gaining weight: “If a woman wants to look a little younger, gain a little weight, it’s a natural thing. I look a little fuller just from that,” she explained.

In 2006, Ashlee Simpson debuted a distinctively smaller nose, and while it’s pretty obvious the star went under the knife, she initially neither confirmed nor denied it. “Everybody’s already saying it, so I just don’t talk about it. I’m like, OK, whatever. It doesn’t bother me,” she told The Associated Press in 2006. However, when asked whether the rumor was true, the “Pieces of Me” singer laughed it off and replied, “Maybe — who knows!”
