A Boston-based woman has revealed that she will be switching houses with a complete stranger from the UK for New Year’s – after being inspired by the Christmas movie The Holiday.

Grace Gagnon, 25, is about to head all the way across the globe to live in one of her follower’s home for the holidays, while the stranger is going to fly to Massachusetts to stay in her water-front apartment.

It all started when she posted a TikTok video, where she asked, ‘Anyone in England want to switch places for the holiday? I have a studio apartment on Boston’s water-font.’

‘Serious inquiries only,’ she captioned it. ‘Bonus points if you have a hot, single brother.’

The clip quickly went viral, gaining more than three million views in a matter of days, and according to the Boston-native, she received 1,000s of responses from people who wanted to participate.

Grace said she came up with the idea after watching the 2006 flick The Holiday, which stars Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law.

In the movie, two women – one from a quiet English village and the other from star-studded Hollywood – decided to swap homes after they both admit they’ve been in a rut.

But things start to turn around for both of them after they fell in love with local men in their new locations.

In another video, Grace said she would make sure to introduce whoever swapped with her to her friends, so that they didn’t have to explore Boston by themselves.

She also said she would provide a detailed list of her favorite things to do around the city – including bars, restaurants, and museums.

And when someone asked if the apartment came with its very own Jude Law, she joked that she did have an older brother, but unfortunately, he’s already taken.

As for what she was looking for, she said she was open to switching with anyone who lived in the U.K. – including England, Ireland, and Scotland – and that she wanted to take the trip after Christmas.

‘I’d like to go somewhere not for Christmas, but after Christmas. I don’t have New Year’s Eve plans, so if I could spend it across the pond I would be so happy,’ she explained. ‘But if that doesn’t work out, I’m also open to other dates in January.

‘I know there are some travel restrictions coming up with COVID so I’ll be watching the news next week and if by chance, we’re not allowed to travel internationally than I would be open to swapping with someone on the West coast of the United States.’

Grace said anyone who was seriously interested could fill out a Google form that she made, and that she already had a few Facetime calls set up with potential-swappers.

She explained that once she decides on a person, she is going to use a certified website to make the exchange – to ensure that everyone’s valuables are safe and that no one gets ‘bamboozled.’

In another video, Grace – who revealed she is currently single – explained that although falling in love would certainly be a plus to the trip, that wasn’t her top priority.

‘I am not going on this trip solely to fall in love and meet someone. I’m going because I want to experience a new part of the world and live in someone else’s shoes,’ she said. ‘And if I happen to meet someone along the way … I’ll be so happy for myself.

In one final clip, Grace revealed that she had officially picked someone to swap houses with, but until everything was booked and set in stone, she didn’t want to share any more details

Bon voyage! ‘I’m literally booking a last minute trip to Europe for New Year’s Eve, all thanks to TikTok. I have been shaking with excitement all day,’ she gushed

Grace explained that she dated someone in college, but said she has spent the last few years focusing on her career, so she has yet to find her true love.

She added: ‘I am a sucker for fairytale endings and Hallmark movie endings and I love when they happen in real life, I just get so excited when I see that stuff happen on social media.

‘I am known for wearing my heart on my sleeve and I think love is so important. But I have yet to experience it.

‘I see a lot of people around me falling in love and doing things with their partners, and I’m so happy for them but I’m always wondering why it hasn’t happened to me yet.

‘The last couple of months I have really been questioning what I’m doing and why I’m single, I’m really fed up honestly. I just want to get out of here for a little bit, shut the world out, and have fun somewhere else.’

In one final update, Grace revealed that she had officially picked someone to swap houses with, but until everything was booked and set in stone, she didn’t want to share any more details.
