Amber Riley and Desean Black have called off their engagement, the “Glee” alum’s rep confirmed to E! News.
“They ask for privacy during this time,” the rep told the outlet late Monday.
Riley, 36, and Black, 34, first sparked breakup rumors last month, when the actress said she was “single” on a March 17 episode of the “Nice & Neat The Podcast” podcast. At the time, she was also not wearing her engagement ring.
“I am a single black female. I am. I’m a single back female, but I’m not a crazy one like in the movie,” Riley said, referring to her 2022 Lifetime film “Single Black Female.”
“I wish him the best. I don’t have anything horrible or bad to say,” she continued, adding that the split was “amicable.” She didn’t specify what happened nor who initiated the breakup.
Page Six has reached out to Riley’s rep for comment.
Riley – who portrayed Mercedes Jones on “Glee” – announced her engagement via Instagram in November 2020. The since-deleted video showcased her engagement sparkler and her then-fiancé’s “fine ass.”
“There was a time when I thought I didn’t want or deserve this kind of love. I’m looking at a man who changed my mind,” she captioned the post. “My time by myself, loving on myself, getting comfortable with myself, prepared me for you, and prepared me for this.”
Riley ended the engagement announcement with a quote: “What God has joined together, let no man separate.”
The former couple hit it off after Riley slid into Black’s DMs. She previously shared a screenshot of the messages, but it’s been wiped from her Instagram page.
“Hey Desean, how are you?” Riley’s message read, to which he replied, “Hey beautiful I’m doing great and you???”
Since the split, Riley said she’s focusing on prioritizing herself.
“It’s taken me a couple years to understand that choosing myself is not selfish,” she said on the podcast.
