Good Morning Britain erupted into debate today as a journalist and entrepreneur clashed over family Christmas cards.
Ellie Phillips said she thinks putting a snap of your family on a festive card is ‘narcissistic and vain’, while entrepreneur and father-of-four Tru Powell said it’s ‘an amazing thing to do’.
The debate comes after the Prince and Princess of Wales released an intimate family portrait with their three children in matching white shirts on the front of their Christmas card this year.
Ellie said: ‘I think it’s a bit narcissistic, it’s embarrassing, I think it’s vain to send a picture of yourself and your family under the guise of wishing people Merry Christmas.
‘I would rather spend the money and the time and effort buying a charity Christmas card and knowing it’s going to a good cause and enjoying it that way.’

Tru disagreed saying doing a family Christmas card picture ‘brings the family together.’
He said: ‘It’s a beautiful thing to do, to bring the family together, to take photos with the family and to share the love from your family to another family.
‘You are sharing the joy and the love and it’s an amazing thing to do.’
Tru claimed that Christmas cards tend to have other families on them so why not have a family that ‘you know and like and have a relationship with.’
Ellie said: ‘The only people who really care about seeing you on a card are probably grandparents or maybe god parents beyond that if you are sending these cards to colleagues or a client it’s weird.’
Tru said he only sends his family Christmas cards to people who have a close relationship to his children.
Ellie added: ‘The other problem I have with it, is I think it is a little bit ignorant of other people’s circumstances because in that year someone may have lost a loved one to is struggling to have a child, you don’t know what’s going on sometimes it could be rubbing salt in the wound, saying look at this we are picture perfect.’
Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to leave their own mixed views on the topic.
