DEAR DEIDRE: MY partner has bought us a second home but put only his name on the deeds. Is this a sign he’s still not ready to commit?
We’ve been together since university and moved into our first home together three years ago. We’re 32.

We live in the middle of a busy city, which is great day-to-day. But with lockdown and spending so much time at home, we wanted somewhere near the coast to escape to.
Due to the small debt I’ve built up over the last year, my boyfriend suggested it might be easier to put just his name on the mortgage.
But now I’m worried he doesn’t want to commit. Is this his back-up home in case things go wrong?
He’s never brought up marriage or kids, and if I do he shuts it down quickly, saying he’s not ready yet.
DEIDRE SAYS: Only your partner will know his intentions for buying the house in his name only, so ask. Having only his name on the deed does mean you have few rights, but this is fixable with legal help.
As you’re unsure if he’s willing to commit more generally, start having some honest chats.
I’m sending you my support pack When Your Man Won’t Commit, with questions to ask both him and yourself.
