Royal Mail regularly shares service updates with its customers to let them know if there are delays around the country. The latest postal delays are likely to hit 34 postcodes around the UK.

Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures precent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day.

“It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”

The company has warned customers that there are likely disruptions this week.

It added: “Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas may be disrupted this week.

“We aim to deliver at least every other day in these areas, though this may not always be possible in offices temporarily affected by very high levels of absence.

“These offices are exceptions.”

Customers can also sign up to receive information by email to see if their postcode area is affected.

Royal Mail added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for understanding.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resource available. And we’re ensuring we prioritise the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.”

Taking to Twitter, one customer said: “Has anything else been having Royal Mail delivery problems? I’m Worthing and I’ve had no mail for two weeks.”

Another wrote: “Is Royal Mail having delays again? Was expecting a next day delivery but I’ve had nothing.”

The company is also thought to be scrapping its signed-for parcels and Saturday letters in a bid to cut costs.

Royal Mail, which was fully privatised in 2015, is required to deliver letters for a fixed price, six days per week.

However, with fewer people sending letters, bosses are thought to be looking at plans to scrap tracked and signed-for packages because they come at a cost.

It is also said that the proposed service may focus more on the delivery of parcels, to compete with the likes of Amazon, Hermes and DPD.

The demand for parcels has rocketed throughout the pandemic with more people shopping online than ever.
