Bordeaux fan bus ‘ambushed and attacked by 50 Montpellier supporters’ en route to Ligue 1 clash with at least 16 injured

BORDEAUX fans' coach was attacked by Montpellier supporters before Wednesday night's Ligue 1 clash – with at least 16 people hurt.

French outlet L'Equipe say stones were hurled at the bus, with many injuries caused by windows shattering.

Montpellier had already been hit by sanctions because of previous fan violence.

So more action seems certain to follow another shocking night.

The home stands were partially closed after Montpellier supporters threw missiles at visiting Marseille players.

Around 100 Bordeaux fans were at tonight's match – as Samuel Kalu bagged their late equaliser in a 3-3 draw.

But the evening was ruined for many before kick-off.

A Bordeaux supporters coach was 'ambushed' – with glass debris causing what were described by French reports as 'light injuries'.

And Bordeaux president Gérard Lopez tweeted his disgust at the latest incident to tarnish Montpellier's reputation.

He posted: "The football that I love is not and will never be this.

"Violence has no place in sport and I firmly condemn it.

"My full support goes out to the Bordeaux supporters and the injured, the club is with them.”
