DAZN ‘close to buying BT Sport’ with deal worth £580million set to be completed this month after talks started last summer

DAZN are reportedly set to complete the purchase of BT Sport.

As reported by Reuters, the deal, which is set to be worth £580million, is poised to be finalised this month.

Talks over a deal started last summer and reportedly stalled last month as Discovery looked to compete with DAZN.

However, it now seems that DAZN’s purchase will go ahead.

Discovery are said to remain in talks but DAZN are now clear favourites.  

DAZN have the rights to broadcast FA Cup, League Cup and EFL games in various countries including Germany and Switzerland.

They are especially interested in BT Sport’s rights for Premier League and Champions League games.

Enders Analysis state that BT Sport has around five million total viewing households in the UK.

DAZN have 11 million subscribers worldwide and previously struck a deal with Eddie Hearn to show Matchroom Boxing fights excluding Anthony Joshua. 

If the deal goes ahead then it would expand DAZN’s reach in the UK and Ireland. 

BT Sport was launched in 2013. They also show live games from Ligue 1 and Serie A. In addition, they have coverage of rugby and cricket. They are based at the former International Broadcast Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
