Gary Anderson and Joe Cullen on collision course after Premier League bust-up

Darts duo Gary Anderson and Joe Cullen are on a collision course as the Premier League heads to Aberdeen – just weeks after an on-stage bust-up between the pair.

Anderson and Cullen were involved in a heated exchange following their quarter-final clash in Rotterdam last month, which seemed to be initiated by the Scot, who lost the match 6-5. After the match, Cullen said Anderson had called him a “cheat”.

“For want of a better expression, he called me a cheat,” said Cullen. “Gary was saying ‘I know what I did’, I said I don’t know what I did. I did absolutely nothing wrong. I’ve never had an issue with Gary in the past. I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, my conscience is clear. I don’t know what it was. I said ‘watch every camera back you’ve got’. I don’t know whether it was the heat of the moment.

“We all do stupid things in the heat of the moment. I’m a lot of things but I’m not a cheat. I’ve got a lot of respect for Gary, he’s a great ambassador for the sport but I think he let himself down a bit tonight.”

There were suggestions that Anderson felt Cullen was guilty of encroaching, although the exact cause of the Flying Scotsman's tirade remains unclear. Speaking a week after the confrontation, Cullen said he had yet to talk to Anderson about the incident, saying: "No. I've not seen him. I'll leave it up to Gary. If he wants to speak to me I'll be happy to speak to him.

"It's just one of those things, especially with the Premier League boys. There's eight players, we see each other week-in week-out. I see some of these boys more than I do my own children.

"It's a pretty isolated environment if you're going to hold grudges, and there'll be no grudges held on my part if Gary wants to clear the air. If he doesn't, that's no problem."

The pair will get chance to speak tonight, especially if they both win their quarter-finals as they would then meet in the semis. However, both have tough matches in the quarters, with Anderson facing Jonny Clayton and Cullen going up against world number one Peter Wright.

The other quarter-finals see James Wade, the winner in Manchester last week, face Michael Smith, while Gerwyn Price takes on current table-topper Michael van Gerwen.
