Gerwyn Price drops biggest hints yet he won’t retire after ear-defenders stunt

Gerwyn Price has dropped the biggest hints yet that he won't retire from darts after his ear-defenders stunt backfired.

Fans had feared that the former world number one could walk away from the sport following his defeat to Gabriel Clemens in the quarter-finals of the PDC World Darts Championship. However, Price now appears to have confirmed that will not be the case after sharing a post to his Instagram story advertising the upcoming Cazoo Masters.

The Iceman appears on the graphic, which features ticket information, for the event in Milton Keynes at the end of this month and also attached the song "Shut up and dance".

Price had previously wiped his Instagram of all posts but has now added a new profile picture which features the quote: “We fall. We break. We fail. But then, we rise. We heal. We overcome.”

It is now expected that he will take his place in the line-up for the Cazoo Masters when it gets underway on January 27. Price is seeded fourth for the event after slipping three places from the top of the world rankings.

As a result, he will join the tournament in the second round, facing the winner of the first round clash between Dirk van Duijvenbode and Krzysztof Ratajski.

Prior to the event, Price is also slated to appear at both the Bahrain and Nordic Darts Masters this month, the former will be his first tournament since shocking fans by wearing ear-defenders in his 5-1 loss to Clemens at the weekend.

Trailing 3-1 on Sunday, Price returned to the stage before the fifth set with his ears covered in an attempt to block out the noise from the Alexandra Palace crowd and produce a comeback in the match.

Having been unable to avoid defeat to his German opponent, Price later hinted he may not return for next year's PDC World Darts Championship and wiped his Instagram of all posts.

However, he did later break his social media silence to congratulate Michael Smith on his 7-4 victory over Michael van Gerwen in Tuesday's final.

Taking to Instagram, Price wrote: "Congratulations Michael Smith. Well deserved. Many more to come #numberone. Enjoy mate."
