The Giants have been knocked off the top of the Super Netball ladder after going down 52-58 to the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
The Giants planned to celebrate Julie Fitzgerald’s 350th elite coaching game in style with a win in the match between the top two sides at their home stadium, Ken Rosewall Arena.
But the Lightning denied them that chance, bolting away in the final quarter to take the win and the first place spot on the league’s ladder.

Scores remained level for the third quarter, and it was just 15 minutes to go it 40-all.
But the Lightning managed to get away in the final quarter – using their speed to their advantage to get in front and take out the top spot on the ladder.
The main differemce between the two sides ended up being shooting accuracy.
The Lightning’s shooters, Peace Proscovia, Cara Koenen and Steph Wood, produced a combined accuracy of 87.9 per cent while Giants duo Jo Harten and Sophie Dwyer managed only 70.8 per cent.
Once again the Giants were let down by their reliance on the Super Shot, successful with just six from 16 attempts with the two-pointer.
Fans were up in arms over a technical glitch in the broadcast which caused the score and time to disappear from the Nine broadcast for more than half the game. Commentators apologised for the error, which was rectified for the final quarter.
