Roma boss Jose Mourinho thinks he’s a better coach now than 10 years ago and has improved with age and experience

FORMER Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed he 'feels more like a coach' now than ever before.

The 58-year-old took over at Roma in the summer, with his side currently fourth in Serie A.

Despite lifting the Champions League, Europa League and Serie A twice before, as well as the Premier League and La Liga three times – Mourinho believes he is still improving.

That's despite not winning a trophy since 2017.

Roma could only manage a seventh placed finish in the league last season – sixteen points off Champions League football – but progression under Mourinho is already evident.

As reported by Football Italia, Mourinho told Esquire Italia: "I feel more like a coach today than ten or 20 years ago.

"If a coach doesn’t improve it’s because he has lost the passion and has lost the mentality that helps him improve every day.

"It’s not a job where age is fundamental or the physical shape. It’s the opposite of the player.

"The experience can only make you better. I only think about the next match.

"All the games I have played and all the trophies I have won, those are in my pocket, and I will have time to look at them when I’m done. Now, I only want to think about the next game."

And Mourinho went on to vow he is determined to bring glory to the eternal city.

He continued: "I want to give titles to the club, because a club lives on titles, the titles increase the passion of the fans.

"I understood that the love for Roma goes beyond trophies, it’s an eternal passion."

Roma have not lifted the Serie A title since 2001, and last won silverware in 2008 with a Coppa Italia triumph.

But the club are now well-placed for success after the appointment of serial winner Mourinho.

Summer signing Tammy Abraham has also hit the ground running since his £34million move from Chelsea.

He's scored four times and provided three assists in just ten appearances for Roma.
