A Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 preview left many fans wondering whether Kendall Long and Joe Amabile got engaged while they were still together. Luckily, Joe cleared up the engagement rumors ahead of the new episode on Monday, Sept. 6 — here’s what the BIP cast member had to say.
How did Kendall Long and Joe Amabile know each other before ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ 2021?
Kendall and Grocery Store Joe are no strangers to Bachelor in Paradise. Before joining the season 7 cast, the two reality stars appeared in season 5. The couple fell in love on their first season together. But they broke up before they could leave the ABC reality series engaged. But during the reunion after-show, Joe and Kendall confirmed they were back together.
Meanwhile, Kendall and Joe continued to see each other outside of the Bachelor bubble. They even moved in together in LA. However, the pair split in January 2020 after dating for almost two years. Ultimately, they broke up because Kendall wanted to live in LA while Joe wanted to move back to Chicago.
Now, Joe has sparked something with Serena Pitt on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7. But it’s possible Kendall’s return shakes everything up in episode 6.
Why some ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Season 7 fans questioned whether Joe Amabile and Kendall Long were engaged
On Aug. 31, ABC released a Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 promo to tease what happened when Kendall and The Bachelorette’s Becca Kufrin joined the cast. But the preview seemingly suggested that Kendall was Joe’s fiancée at some point.
“Tonight, what’s a bigger addition than a former bachelorette? How about a former fiancée?” the narrator said in the trailer.
The “former bachelorette” referred to Becca as clips of the season 14 lead flashed by. Then a shot of Kendall appeared as the narrator said “former fiancée.”
The Bachelor in Paradise Twitter account captioned the video, “A former fiancée has entered the chat. Kendall returns to #BachelorInParadise TONIGHT at 8/7c on ABC!”
Meanwhile, many BIP fans were understandably confused.
“I’m pretty sure they were never engaged ??” a fan wrote on Instagram.
Joe Amabile clears up rumors about a previous engagement with Kendall Long
In the Sept. 2 episode of Bachelor Nation’s Click Bait podcast, Joe briefly touched on the rumors about his relationship with Kendall. At first, the 34-year-old discussed Becca’s arrival. He applauded the former bachelorette’s willingness to go back on BIP, given her time on the franchise and previous engagement. Then Grocery Store Joe confirmed he was never engaged to Kendall.
“There’s rumors that I was engaged as well… to Kendall, which is not true. We dated,” Joe said. “We lived together. But we were never engaged.”
He later added, “We were never engaged, but she comes down.”
While it’s clear that Kendall and Joe didn’t get engaged after season 5 of Bachelor in Paradise, we don’t know how their story ends in season 7. So get ready. This one’s going to be quite the roller coaster.
