Blue's Lee Ryan denies being transphobic or homophobic after row with drag queen

BLUE’s Lee Ryan has denied being homophobic or transphobic – telling The Sun “I’m bisexual and my bandmate is gay – I would never disrespect anyone like that.”

The singer was left shocked and upset after a row with Sammy Sheperd – who performs as drag queen Layla Zee Susan – where he told followers the Blue star was “unhinged”.

“I’m really upset and angry because I would never disrespect any community – I know what it’s like to be disrespected for no reason and it hurts,” Lee tells The Sun.

The row kicked off after Lee posted on Instagram that he “might start identifying myself as an alien / star / seed / indigo child. Anything but human” adding: “Please respect my wishes”.

Sammy responded saying he was “calling him out” because it was “offensive” – to which Lee replied with “F*** off c***. Does that offend you?”

I was basically saying I’m an alien. I wasn’t being offensive to anyone, unless you’re an alien

Lee insists he wasn’t mocking gender identity with his comments, adding “I don’t really like the human race, I think they’re lost, especially what’s going on in the world.

"It was a harmless thing, I was basically saying I’m an alien. I wasn’t being offensive to anyone, unless you’re an alien. I didn’t say one thing about the LGBTQ+ community.”

The pair then traded barbs over Instagram DMs – which Sammy later posted alongside a ten minute long video explaining to his 4,000 followers what had happened.

Lee says: “I told him to go f*** his dad with a pineapple. If he was in the street I’d slap him in the face. It wound me up that much. I would never hit a woman, but if you’ve got a dick I’ll slap you, whether you’re in drag or not.”

Some of my best friends are gay

After the row, Sammy told Lee: “'I hope you can at some point see your insensitivity and educate yourself on why this would be hurtful to your trans and non binary followers.”

But Lee insists that his comments were misconstrued, saying: “I normally ignore things like that but it’s like somebody calling me racist when I’m not. Duncan’s constantly dressing in drag, he’s gay, Blue has a big [gay] following – so this really upset me.

"Some of my best friends are gay. I didn’t say one thing about him being in drag. People get so comfortable sitting behind a keyboard and being really f***ing rude, f***ing p***k. If you’re going to be rude to me, I’ll be rude back, and if you don’t like it, don’t come at me.”

Sammy has since reached out to Lee and apologised.
