Sarah (played by Tina O’Brien) married Adam (Sam Robertson) in 2020, and things seem to have been going well for the Coronation Street pair. They have hit a few rocky patches during their short time as husband and wife so far, but luckily seem to have got past the one-night stand ordeal with Carla Connor (Alison King) and a few other problems they faced. With things moving forward, upcoming scenes on the ITV soap will see Sarah suggesting they have a baby. Adam is surprised by the question but acts as though he’s excited by the idea. It seems he could be hiding something though – does the former lothario have a secret child that his wife doesn’t know about?
In episodes set to air next week, Sarah and Adam find themselves looking after Bertie for Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
As they take the toddler out for lunch at the Bistro, Sarah loves the sight of Adam effortlessly entertaining the child and the scene sparks an idea which she later shares with her husband.
She tells him she would like to have another baby, and the solicitor is left surprised.
Adam tells Sarah he’s delighted at the idea, but is he being honest or just saying what he thinks Sarah wants to her so he doesn’t disappoint her?
Trying for a baby should be a happy occasion for a couple, but things rarely run smoothly in Weatherfield.
Adam’s surprised reaction could be seen as suspicious, the pair have been married for more than a year and it seems natural to extend their family.
Could his shock be related to something else? Adam has always been rather secretive, and with the subject of a baby startling him, could he have a child outside of the Street that nobody else knows about?
It would explain why he’s reluctant to have another baby, perhaps he is secretly supporting another child which he’s never opened up to Sarah about.
Adam and Sarah seemed to forgive each other for past mistakes as they celebrated New Year’s Eve together.
The pair began to question why they couldn’t work things out, with Adam asking: “How did we get it so wrong?”
Sarah replied: “It was great, we just kept hurting each other.”
“So let’s stop, I’m so sorry,” Adam told her. Sarah also apologised.
She added: “There’s a universe where you and me are living happily ever after, in a house with a pool.”
Their conversation seemed to have cleared the air, and the couple has been getting on well since the year started.
But with the two seeming to be on and off again, it’s only a matter of time before something threatens their happiness.
After being a regular in the soap from 2001 to 2007, the character spent almost a decade away from the cobbles.
He moved to Portsmouth, but other than this, little is mentioned of what Adam was up to until he returned in 2016.
Could this hiatus be when Adam may have had a child?
It doesn’t seem impossible to consider, and if this is the case, the child would have to be at least five years old now, as he returned in 2016.
Is Adam stashing money away to support his estranged family?
With Sarah’s suggestion coming out of the blue, he may not have given thought to how he would afford another child.
Will he come clean to his wife? He tells her he’s pleased with the idea, so it seems unlikely.
The upcoming episodes could see the start of the couple facing another hurdle in their relationship.
Perhaps Adam thought he was protecting his marriage by keeping his past from Sarah, but she’s bound to be devastated if she finds out he does have a child he’s never mentioned to her.
Will he leave it too late to come clean about his financial concerns?
Lying in hopes of coming up with a solution definitely seems like something Adam would do, so if there is a secret to hide, it could be a long time before it comes out.
Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
