Dexter: New Blood fans are expecting a big twist next week when the show airs its final episode. Hannah McKay’s potential return is one of the predictions for the end of the series. But will Hannah McKay be in Dexter: New Blood‘s finale? It’s honestly not likely.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ is a new chapter for the beloved antihero
Dexter: New Blood picks up nearly a decade after Dexter faked his death and went into hiding, after leaving behind Hannah and Harrison Morgan. It finds him in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York, where he’s living under the alias Jim Lindsay. Dexter has a regular life with a job and a girlfriend, police chief Angela Bishop. But his past comes back to haunt him when Harrison suddenly arrives in Iron Lake.
In conversation with Dexter, Harrison explains that he’d spent the last few years alone after Hannah died of cancer and decided to track his father after finding a letter indicating he was alive. While their relationship was initially strained, the two are starting to bond over their shared darkness and trauma.
Will Hannah McKay appear in the finale?
Despite Harrison’s comments, many fans believe he’s lying about Hannah. Some think there will be a big reveal about Hannah in the finale, ranging from Harrison possibly killing her to Hannah actually being alive. However, Scott Reynolds, an executive producer on the show, confirmed Hannah died of cancer.
“That’s the result of who Hannah was, someone who dealt with poisons all her life,” he told TV Fanatic. “My grandfather on my dad’s side worked in a factory where he was basically poisoned his whole life. You deal with that stuff, and that’s going to catch up with you.”
So an appearance by Hannah isn’t likely. However, TV Insider reported that “someone else from Dexter’s past will pop up in the final episode.” Their identity is being kept a secret, but showrunner Clyde Phillips told the outlet that their return would become “a big story point.”
Why Yvonne Strahovski isn’t in ‘Dexter: New Blood’
Yvonne Strahovski, who played the deadly botanist, first ruled out her involvement in early 2021, noting she wasn’t asked back. “I’m so sorry to break it to everybody, but I haven’t heard anything about the reboot,” she said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. She had a theory that Harrison had killed Hannah, but did not elaborate.
“I have no idea what they’re going to do,” she added to HeyUGuys. “I’m not part of it, so I am very curious as to how they’re going to navigate the storyline from this point forward.”
Fans can see how it all ends on Jan. 9, when Dexter: New Blood airs its final episode. It comes on at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
