EastEnders star Charlie Brooks discusses Janine comeback

Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) was last seen in EastEnders back in December, heading to prison after Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) disappearance and months of secrets and lies.

The beloved character returned to Walford and began a relationship with the Queen Vic landlord, but it made for a complicated love-triangle storyline, as recovering alcoholic Linda (Kellie Bright) also wanted to get back with him.

Because this was Janine, she was never going to give up and let Mick and Linda reunite.

From lies about Linda crashing her car while drunk to calling social services about baby Annie, Janine did just about everything to keep Mick all to herself – and it very nearly worked.

Over Christmas, the truth was finally revealed during a massive showdown, resulting in Janine, Mick and Linda all ending up in the sea.

However, in a heartbreaking moment, Janine and Linda made it to shore and searched for Mick, only to realise he had gone back into the choppy waters, under the impression Linda was still out there.

Sadly, Mick never returned and because it was the middle of December, he had poor swimming skills and the fact he was out there for a very long time, the Carter family have been forced to accept that he probably died.

With it recently being confirmed that Janine had been sentenced to five years behind bars after the ordeal, we more than likely won’t be seeing her again for a while but this is a soap after all – because she was never killed off, there’s always a possibility she could return.

‘She is always fun to play’, Charlie Brooks told The Sun recently.

‘I’m always interested in what she’s doing and what she’s up to, so there’s always a possibility [to return]’.

She added: ‘I couldn’t play her constantly though, and I don’t think anyone would want me to!

‘I think somebody might actually kill me if Janine was always in their living rooms four times a week!’.
