Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has joked that she’s given her husband Greg Wise condoms in case he falls victim to the infamous ‘Strictly curse’.
The 62-year-old acting legend, whose husband Greg, 55, is dancing alongside the show’s longest-serving Strictly pro Karen Hauer, made the tongue-in-cheek comment as she opened up about him taking part in the BBC series.
Speaking ahead of Greg’s dancing debut, national treasure Emma told The Sun: “I am worried about the Strictly curse, very much so. I have put a packet of Durex into Greg’s good luck card. Just two. But you don’t know, do you?”
The star went on: “They haven’t got time for a lot of s***ing, I hope, they’ll be so exhausted!”
She also opened up about how she feels about watching Greg dance with Karen, adding: “I am not going to the show every week.”
“Karen’s gorgeous, she’s from Venezuela and is only 39.”
This comes after Greg revealed that Emma, who he met on the set of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, told him he had to sign up to the show.
Speaking ahead of his first performance on the famous Strictly dance floor, Greg explained: “I was asked a couple of months ago if I wanted to do Strictly. I said, ‘of course not.’
He continued: “Then I told my wife – Dame Emma – and she said, ‘you have to do it!’ so here we are.”
Greg also has a very touching reason for wanting to be part of the class of 2021 – he’s dancing in honour of his late sister, who sadly passed away from bone cancer in 2016.
The Crown actor explained: “I am doing it for my lovely sis, a disco diva queen goddess on the dance floor, who died almost exactly five years to the day to when I'm going to start work on this, so she's prodding me hugely.”
He continued: “She left this world in a glitter ball coffin and my life will be all glitter balls for the next few months, so it seems really appropriate for her.”
The star’s since revealed that he hopes to dance to one of her favourite tracks – ABBA’s Dancing Queen.
He revealed: “Dancing Queen was her big one. So I think we could probably waltz to Dancing Queen. That'd be fun.”
