Emmerdale fans were absolutely devastated watching the final scenes of Thursday’s (July 28) episode as Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) was seen dead at the bottom of the stairs.

The beloved character was really looking forward to attending Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel’s (Charlotte Bellamy) wedding, but problems prior to the big day seriously fractured the father and son’s relationship.

We are, of course, talking about Jai’s discovery that saw him learn he’s adopted.

He’s spent the last few weeks furious at his dad for the apparent betrayal and desperate to know who is real dad is, but Rishi (Bhasker Patel) maintained that he only knew a little bit about Jai’s biological father.

That turned out to be untrue, as last night’s episode saw Rishi and Georgia (Lin Blakley) finally tell Jai that his real dad is Rishi’s brother, which makes him and Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) brothers, not cousins.

As Jai and Laurel made their way to the church for their big day, Rishi was at home getting ready, determined to be there for his son despite the difficulties.

With the reception getting underway, Georgia helped Jai accept that Rishi chose to keep the adoption a secret for a reason. He dealt with the shame from family members towards Georgia having an affair – Rishi did it all, so Jai didn’t have to.

This was enough for Jai to realise that he needed to fix things with his dad.

But as he made a toast to his friends and family, Rishi was lying dead in his home, presumably taking a tumble after getting ready for his son’s wedding.

And suffice to say everybody was heartbroken.
