Emmerdale welcomed back Kim Tate (played by Claire King) back in 2018 after two decades away from the screen. Now, there are rumours she is going to leave the Dales but this time, with no chance of returning as she could be killed off. Express.co.uk spoke to the actress who plays Kim about the character traits which could lead to her downfall. And Claire also discussed whether after 20 years she is ever surprised by the storylines the writers have in store for her and the Home Farm matriarch.

Over the years, Kim has earned herself the status of being a ruthless villain.

But in recent months, she seems to have lost her touch and Claire explained the reasons for this.

She has mellowed and she does mellow,” Claire commented. “She mellows over things like her horses and to some of her family.

“People she cares about and loves – although that may be temporary.

“But no, she does have a soft side and she does get hurt, but she’s just very good at not showing it, she keeps this strong plate of armour up and a tough front.

“So that’s why you think she’s tough all the time, but she does feel things inside she just doesn’t give it away because she see that as a weakness,” the actress added.

As for whether Claire is even surprised by Kim’s actions or behaviour, Claire continued: “I used to get surprised 20 years ago, but now I think I’m beyond being surprised.

“Whatever they [the writers] throw at me I say ‘Oh, really, okay that’s strange but anyway we’ll just get on to it’.

“So now I don’t get surprised that much now, then that’s half the fun of playing this character, because you get away literally with murder, and various other things and saying things to people that you would never dream of saying in real life.

“That’s part of the fun of playing Kim Tate and it’s one of the best characters on telly, I know it’s camp and OTT sometimes, and not totally realistic but it’s fun.

As for how Kim could exit the soap, official soap spoilers have teased she will be murdered.

Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) is the prime suspect, but would he really kill his lover?

It comes after Kim has been trying to find out who has been poisoning her.

She invited all the possible suspects to lunch the other week and announced she would be retiring from the family company and was looking for a successor.

Kim was hoping the culprit would slip up and expose themselves, but her plan did not work.

“Jai and Al [are] on this list [of culprits] because they’ve been giving her a lot of grief about work and she doesn’t completely trust them as far as the business is concerned,” Claire explained. “So she has to include those two.

“There is Dawn. Kim has previously spiked her drink so she thinks this could be revenge.

“She also dislikes Dawn intensely as she is seeing Jamie, so Kim wonders if Dawn might want Kim out of the way.

“Will is on there because he’s Dawn’s father, he’s in and out of the house and he might get Kim back for her treatment of Dawn,” the actress continued.

She suspects Gabby because she now doesn’t trust her very much as she has been stealing from her and thinks that maybe Gabby has ulterior motives about getting her hands on Home Farm and of course her son Jamie because he’s living in the house and the brandy is in the house.

“All of them have access to the house, so they are all possible culprits.

“She’s ruled out Lydia at this point because she drank it and just seemed totally innocent of it.

“Also Lydia has been a real support and help to Kim recently when she passed out. So she has ruled Lydia out,” Kim commented.

Emmerdale is available to watch on the ITV Hub this week due to the Euros.
