The Catch viewers rip into 'terrible script and dire acting' as new Jason Watkins drama kicks off | The Sun

VIEWERS have let rip into new Channel 5 drama The Catch and have slammed the show for its poor acting.

The new Channel 5 show stars actor Jason Watkins as a man on the brink.


He plays fisherman Ed Collier who is terrified that he is about to lose his daughter to her boyfriend.

However fans were instantly left with a sour taste in their mouth and found themselves unable to enjoy the show.

One fan criticised how a 'humble fisherman' was living in a million pound house.

Viewers quickly took to Twitter to slam the show over its uninspired scripts and 'dodgy' acting.

One fan wrote online of the 'dull' show: "What on earth is a fabulous actor like Jason Watkins doing in this show?

"Terrible script, dire acting by most of the cast and just extremely dull Shame as was really looking forward to seeing this."

Another added: "#TheCatch anyone else struggling to get into this?"

While a third shared: "Some very forced accents & poor acting."

Many fans were also quick to compare the drama to the BBC's reigning hit Happy Valley which has been dominating the drama ranks over the last few weeks.

One fan questioned: "Why does the humble fisherman live in a million pound home? Why does the acting seem so forced? Why is the script so bad? Why isn't this #happyvalley #thecatch."

As another said: "D'you know what – I reckon #HappyValley has set the bar so high I'm beginning to find other tv dramas a bit 2dimensional…"
