Tom Parker opens up on suffering from short term memory loss due to cancer: ‘It drives me insane’

Tom Parker has candidly revealed how his inoperable brain tumour has affected him, including suffering from short term memory loss.

The Wanted star Tom, discussed his battle with cancer so far as he starred in a touching documentary, In My Head, which aired on Channel 4 on Sunday 10 October.

In the programme, Tom was asked how the cancer has affected him, to which he explained: “The cancer has definitely affected my short term memory, my walking and even lifting my arm has been a bit of a challenge to be honest.”

Then, as he continued to answer the question, dad-of-two Tom told the cameraman: “Sorry, I’ve completely f**king forgot the question.”

From behind the camera, a man then said: “That’s fine, I was just saying what does it feel like living with cancer.”

“Oh,” Tom said while looking around before adding: “There is your answer. The short term memory is terrible, like, ‘Oh what was I saying’. It drives me insane.”

Tom, who recently got emotional looking back on previous MRI scans as his tumour has shrunk, has been documenting recent months to share his journey of going through cancer.

In another clip from the documentary, Tom is seen breaking down as he opened up on coming to terms with the diagnosis.

As he was filmed wiping away tears, his mum Noreen could be heard saying: “We just couldn’t believe it and it just almost was like a horror film. We think it’s a tumour, then from a tumour to it being the worst tumour you can possibly ever have.

“And very difficult to come to terms with really.”

Noreen then broke down in tears and apologised to the cameramen. Tom could then be heard saying: “I just remember just shutting down. I thinks scared is probably an understatement to say the least. Yeah, I was absolutely petrified.

“Do you know what it was, I just couldn’t stop thinking about death, is the honest truth.”
