Canadian actor Alexander Ludwig is best known for his long-running role as Bjorn Ironside in the History Channel series Vikings. The star will also be joining The CW’s Arrow in a brand new series, Heels, on Starz, and recently took to Instagram to confirm his next exciting project.

Alexander Ludwig is set to release his own self-titled EP on Friday, May 21.

Hot off his six year stint as Vikings’ Bjorn Ironside, the Canadian actor has just been signed by BBR Music Group/BMG for a global recording deal.

His five-track record was produced by fellow songwriters Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy, and promises to ‘blend old-school twang with modern muscle’.

The star recently released a heartfelt Instagram post thanking his collaborators for spearheading his new musical venture.

In the video, Ludwig spoke from his car having just pulled over shortly after hearing the news of his signing.

He told his fans: “I’m here for the long haul, and this is something I’ve wanted to do my whole life.

“We’ve been working non-stop on a killer record for you guys, an awesome EP.”

Ludwig went on to thank his 3.5 million social media followers for all their kind words over the years.

“I cannot thank you enough, from the bottom of my heart, for all your support. Thank you for encouraging me, and thank you for supporting the stuff I’ve done in the past.

“I can’t wait for you guys to hear the stuff we’ve got coming out in the future. So keep a lookout.”

His upcoming EP will serve as the follow-up to his first country single last year, ‘Let Me Be Your Whiskey’.

The self-titled release will draw inspiration from classic country singers such as lan Jackson and George Strait.

Ludwig has also named more contemporary artists like Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, and Eric Church as a major influence on his music.

In an additional statement, he said: “I’ve been drawn to country music since I was handed my first guitar at nine years old.

“Life is about the journey and I am so grateful to take these next steps in music with Loba, BBR Music Group/BMG and the community in Nashville and want to thank them for taking a chance and believing in me.”

BBR Music Group also released a preview of Ludwig’s upcoming EP, which includes tracks such as ‘Love Today’, ‘How It Rolls’ and ‘Summer Crazy’.

President of BMG Nashville Jon Loba contributed to the statement by praising Ludwig’s worth ethic and commitment to his new project.

He said: “Alexander is one of those rare individuals who excels at everything he does.

“He’s been a long-time student of the genre and put in the time over the last several years coming to Nashville, spending time writing, learning from industry vets and honing his craft.”

Meanwhile, Alexander Ludwig’s time as Bjorn Ironside may have come to an end, but he’ll soon be returning to the screens for Starz’ new wrestling drama, Heels.

The actor recently starred in last year’s blockbuster sequel, Bad Boys For Life, and is also set to feature in Netflix’s upcoming LA-based thriller, Night Teeth.

Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
